Great open space. Very quiet and stunning. Restaurant 43 served excellent food at good prices. The Host and his team were very polite and looked after us very well. Great location for exploring Essex and Suffolk. Flatford Mill was beautiful and Woodbridge a lovely little town on the river.
We were there for a Pirate BBC Essex weekend on the LV18 boat. We mainly stayed around the harbour and pier. It was a lovely place with a gorgeous old cinema and lots of old buildings and history.
McDonald's was nice did not see a lot of Clacton I was working for EssexRaynet at the Clacton airshow but what I did see was very nice everybody was polite all the shopkeepers security emergency services very good, it was a lovely two days
We did not have long there having to get home the next day but we would like to have explored the area .Stisted is a typical North Essex village with easy access to motorways and Stansted airport.
No less dreary than most small towns in south west Essex. Used to be quite posh but now mainly home to loud city boys and girls whose expensive educations seemed never to have included lessons in good manners or social intelligence. Have you seen how they eat? Only good thing? Proximity to London.
Nice place to be, not too rough like some parts of London. If you wanted a train to other parts of South Essex or East London, it’s very cheap and the C2C trains are very frequent. Basildon has some nice restaurants and lots of shops around too.
Harlow Town does not make the blood race and to some would leave a lot to be desired but as a base to see the best that Essex has to offer its second to none. There are so many beautiful small towns, villages and hamlets to see and enjoy they could fill a multitude of picture postcards.
It’s hard to recommend a town based on the fact that I was there for a sad occasion. However, I know Colchester from a year-long stay. It’s not the most beautiful town in the UK and doesn’t impress with its historic town centre. Colchester is definitely vibrant and interesting when people are out and about during the day and especially on the weekend. Colchester is the capital of the county Essex. The Romans built their first settlement there which was the Roman capital of Britain (Camulodunum). The castle, built upon Roman remains, is worth a visit. There is now a new gallery called Firstsite. I haven’t been to the zoo but it is supposed to be rather good. All that having been said, the countryside around Colchester is extremely beautiful and the county Suffolk to the north offers outstanding trips. It was a historically affluent region and bucolic countryside often painted by Constable who was born in the area. Also the painter William Turner hails from Sudbury in Suffolk. Don’t miss out on Leavenham and Bury St Edmunds in the north of Colchester. A trip to Mersey Island should be on the itinerary if one likes Oysters and mussels as well as fresh fish.
Best kept secret of Essex is Southend-on-Sea, innit?! Situated on the north of the Thames Estuary and providing no thoroughfare to places yonder, visitors have a purpose; no passers by or stragglers here. It really is a great town. Boasting the World’s largest pleasure pier (actually a functional pier providing access for RNLI lifeboat crews to water deep enough they can launch a rescue boat in, otherwise exposed for over a mile by mud flats) proudly jutting 1.3 miles or 2.1 km into the tidal waters. Visit Old Leigh with its cockle sheds, ancient pubs and arty farty shops. It’s proud to have sent boats to Dunkirk during WWII. That aside, the weather is good. Lowest rainfall in the country, good summer temps and lots of open space including beaches, parks and woodland. Some excellent pubs and a few good restaurants - The Pipe of Port, one to note.
It’s a nice city, easy to reach from Stansted Airport by a First Essex bus. Regular service to and from Chelmsford. The main shopping area has all the shops you would expect to find in any city. It suited us.
Harwich
Property is exactly as pictured and very clean and cozy. Absolutely love the hotel-quality bedding and towels, made the stay feel so luxurious and great value for money. Although located at the port where there might not be as many activities, it is reasonably close to many attractions like Clacton Pier and Essex. Everyone in my family kept saying they would miss the place once we left and honestly we do! The games available also made the nights we spent more fun for us! Would love to stay again! Definitely highly recommend it!
The room was very spacious and clean. Well equipped with good flatscreen TV, tea, coffee etc. great power shower. Bed was so comfortable. The Indian restaurant attached to the Hotel was really good. Breakfast is a lakeside location about a 5 minute walk from main Hotel. Prices at Hotel and Restaurant great for location. Considering just 10 minutes by train you are inside M25 the waterside location was so quiet and serine. We shall definitely stay again, and would consider it a great base to explore Herts, Essex and London.
The view over Halfpenny Pier towards the Shotley peninsula was superb, there was always activity on the rivers Stour and Orwell. The hotel is superbly placed for using the Pier to board a vessel due to journey up either of the rivers or along the Essex and Suffolk coastlines. Within Harwich there are a number of historic buildings and sites to be enjoyed. The menu in the restaurant was interesting, our selected meals were always beautifully cooked and presented.
I found the staff at the hotel to be really friendly and efficient. I'd recommend this hotel purely for this reason. Location was acceptable, plenty of food outlets close by. Rooms were acceptable given price paid. There was an issue with my booking - I'd booked 2 rooms, but only one was reserved on arrival. This was sorted out quickly with no fuss when I arrived. If I have another wedding to go to in Essex, I'll book here again. Thanks
Thaxted
Lovely hotel in the most charming location in the village of Thaxted , Essex . The hotel has a cosy atmosphere and the staff are friendly and welcoming. My room was comfortable and well decorated , just the right size for my needs as I had a early flight the following morning . By the way that's another bonus it's only 20 mins away from the airport.
Dedham
Beautiful village, good food, and especially friendly staff. Loved the cross between pub and hotel! Oh and the non regulation Tudor floors and walls, most relaxing stay for some time. Breakfast was excellent , and again the staff couldn't be more accommodating. If you wish to visit Essex,Suffolk or anywhere near, give it a go 😊😊
Burnham on Crouch
Absolutely amazing. We have stayed in every hotel or B'n'B in Essex over the last 7 months and this was the best one there is. Stunning property with some amazing features. Excellent coffee machine, sound system, all sorts of TV apps, And the best bit? A soft archery set! We had the best night away ever. Thank you so so much.
Booked a room at the very last minute, but was able to check in after 11pm and the receptionist was very welcoming. The room was lovely, as always, and toasty warm. This is one of my favourite hotels in Essex - clean, cosy, welcoming, great atmosphere in the pub/restaurant too.
Great Yeldham
This was a charming period coaching inn set in a pretty part of north Essex, close to the Suffolk border. Our evening meal and cooked breakfast were very good. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Plenty of parking and nicely decorated room with wet room and shower.
As a woman travelling alone I love the Essex as the staff are so friendly and I feel very safe at the hotel. I have Coeliac Disease and the catering staff always go the extra mile to ensure I can eat without worry of gluten contamination.
The location and the room exceed my expectations for the price I paid, it is extremely good value for money combined with a real service focused approach from amazing staff. I will definitely stay at this hotel on any future trip to Essex
Fabulous little hotel tucked away in a quiet part of Essex. A real gem of a find. The Cherry Pub next door serving great food with very friendly helpful staff. Really clean accommodation easy to collect the key from the pub next door.
Braintree
ideal location, just outside Braintree in Essex. Perfect for a one to tonight stuff over all the facilities you require in the apartment would recommend this to anyone as is a quiet little sound, very relaxing.
The location was excellent and easy to find. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and my room was above expectations. This hotel will be my first choice when I next come to Essex to stay.
I chose the location as I was missing Essex Campus. I loved the hotel and the stay, but the price could compete better with some of the good hotels in Town Centre. Staff were amazing!
Comfortable rooms and very efficient and friendly staff. Feels homely unlike many chain hotels. I plan to stay there regularly when work takes me to Essex
The hotel has good leisure facilities with long hours of access. The hotel is well situated for access to many destinations around Essex e.g. Lakeside.
Clacton-on-Sea

It was very Essex! Super comfortable and stylish and had everything you’d want from a hotel.
