Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

I regularly go to Lincoln to visit family and stay for a few days when I can. Some parts of the old town area are difficult to access due to cobblestones and narrow pavements with mobility aids. The cathedral is well worth a visit. Shops and restaurants are plentiful.

Lincoln is two towns, a lower one which is like many towns in England and an upper town, which is special. At the centre is a square across which the cathedral and castle face one another. The cathedral is so large and impressive that it dominates everything else

Great venue for a weekend away - you can walk everywhere (steep slope up to the Castle andCathedral). The Cathedral is stunning and the Castle worth the trip on it's own. The £16 ticket seemed a lot, but it was well worth it. A guided tour outside, a walk with audio set around the castle walls, a visit to the old prison and, to cap it all, to see the Magna Carta (one of the four existing copies in existence).
With the cafe on site we spent a very full morning seeing everything - allow 4 hours to do it justice.

Lincoln is an underrated city - it has an amazing Cathedral and Castle, which are well worth a visit. Steep Hill is only for the fit, but worth it if you can. Lovely small shops and cafés line the route, so you can have a break if you wish. Also, you can visit free of charge art galleries like the Usher Gallery (Turner paintings). The people of Lincolnshire are very friendly and this is why I live here!

Good Things:
Staff were very nice and helpful.
Good Things:
Staff were very nice and helpful.
Location was great, close to lots of places.
Bad Things:
No slippers in room even though I asked for them.
Breakfast was not good, not enough food.
Bathroom and toilet were too small
The staff were really friendly, but there were some problems too. I asked for slippers but never got them. The breakfast did not have much choice. And the bathroom felt cramped because it was so tiny.
The location was convenient at least, making it easy to walk around. Overall an okay stay, but could have been better if the issues with amenities were fixed
Loved the beautiful location of property. Near the canal and Marina with a bus service into Lincoln city centre. A perfect location to relax after the hustle and bustle of a day in the city. Food what you expect with Pub Grub no complaints at all. The staff make this hotel I forgot to ask her name but the young lady who checked us in was amazing taking the time to give us local info and making sure we were settled in. I have to add all staff were friendly and helpful and would definitely stay here again.
This is a wonderful hotel. It’s really boutique like inside. Staff were all really friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Rooms all modern and clean. The restaurant was great, we had one dinner and two breakfasts within our party and it lived up every time. The second day we got car parking permits from reception which was a lovely bonus. We were a party of up to 11 over two nights. A couple of people want to visit Lincoln again and have said they’ll book The Tower Hotel next time.
Gorgeous location and view of cathedral from our room. We came to look round the university and the hotel was a perfect location to get to the university easily. Beautifully clean room , really comfy beds. My son really enjoyed the breakfast and was able to have as much as he wanted, for him this made the stay !! Would recommend and would stay again. My son will be starting Lincoln university in September so I'm sure we will be staying again soon.
Lovely, comfortable, clean hotel with very friendly and welcoming staff.
Our room overlooked the Brayford wharf area which is attractive both night and day.
The hotel is situated a short walk from a large number of bars, restaurants and Lincoln City Centre itself. The breakfast options and quality are absolutely top drawer, the choice is formidable. This was our third mini break here this year and it certainly won't be our last.
I loved the location - set back behind the main road so it was very quiet.
The rooms have been tastefully decorated and there’s have thought of everything you could need whilst there.
My son used the sofa bed and it was surprisingly really comfy. The main bed was also very comfy.
Parking was directly outside which made it easy … and it was walkable into Lincoln if we didn’t want to use the car.
All in all it was a great stay!
Room cold old type air con that smelt when first turned on. Windows dirty/room dusty. Room old and tired. Bathroom spot light not working/big dints in the bath loo didn’t flush very well. Waited over 45mins for food. Meal for 4 my food came out and must have been under the heat lamp for a long while. The hotel was generally ok and in the perfect location just didn’t live up to the website information
I decided to book a room in this hotel for its location (distance from transportation services, position, price, etc.). The position is perfect and fully met my expectations. Staff was amazing, super friendly, and respectful of my needs. The room was ideal for my stay. Overall, good quality compared to services received. I'll return here for my next trip to Lincoln.
I loved how cozy and clean the room was. It has even a small fridge in the room. I travel a lot and even some big hotels don't have that.
The location is perfect, very close to the city centre. I used to live in Lincoln and I didn't know this beautiful house before. I would recommend it 100% and I would stay there if I need a place to stay when I come back again.
I love everything about the apartment and the location. It was just a 2-minute walk to the Lincoln Castle. I was welcomed with a bottle of champagne and cakes. Everything was perfect. And yes, aside from the smart TV, there was a DVD with an array of movies to choose from, which brought back some nostalgic memories for me.
Parking was easy. A very warm welcome from the staff.
The bar and front garden of the hotel was pleasantly busy with guests
Room was very comfortable.
Breakfast was great.
Location in Lincoln is great for cathedral and castle and the city centre only a walk away.
Felt like really good value for money.
The bar and staff were excellent very good service and the restaurant was exceptional the food delicious. There was musical entertainment that capped a perfect day. Additionally the hotel was in the center right next to the Cathedral making walking to see things easy.
Really enjoyable break - clean comfortable and plenty of space. Not cheap but a great base for exploring Lincoln itself and north Lincolnshire more generally. Breakfast was good and there are takeaways to eat in nearby. Would go back any day.
Really warm welcome from all the staff at the Pyewipe, the room was excellent very comfortable and everything needed for a short stay. It is a great walk of about half an hour into the center of Lincoln along the canal.
The location. The hotel is situated on the main Street through Lincoln city centre and close to pubs, restaurants and the Cathedral and Castle.
There are 2 carparks close by so walking with luggage isn't a big issue
As before when we stayed, the breakfast was very simple and delicious. Lovely buiding and a nice sized comfortable room. Very convenient location for the more interesting shops and cafes in Lincoln.
It was very cozy and clean, staff were really friendly and incredibly helpful.
The hotel is placed in such a lovely part of Lincoln.
Would highly recommend to anyone.
