FAQs about hotels in Melbourne

Buzzy Jewel of Aussie Rules

A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.

Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.

South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.

Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

Melbourne is such a beautiful city.

Melbourne is such a beautiful city. I was there to see Nick Cave at the Convention Centre. What a concert ❤️. Hotel Indigo was in a perfect place for me to walk to South Bank; in fact l walked everywhere. It was literally a five minute walk from the Southern Cross station. I can't wait to return to visit all Melbourne has to offer.

    Always love Melbourne.

Always love Melbourne. Going to Anzac Day AFL was a highlight. Walking the laneways in town looking at different shops and eateries was great, as was taking the tram to St Kilda for a walk around. Tram system was easy. Pubs, cafes, bars were busy. Food prices, especially in pubs were surprisingly high.

The restaurants are next level. Melbourne is super busy and there are pedestrians everywhere but everyone seems to move with ease and everyone is friendly. Loved the food and the shopping. Bring good walking shoes - so much to see and do. Loved the free trams around the CBD. Public transport is very good.

We commented daily on receiving incredibly kind and courteous assistance wherever we went and on the friendliness we encountered. Perhaps it had something to do with our white hair but it seemed very spontaneous and natural. The trams and trains are amazing, easy to access and incredibly cheap. Our good fortune with the weather was a huge plus.

Best base from which to explore Melbourne. Apartments are huge and have balconies with expansive views over Flagstaff Gardens and the city skyline. In so many other CBD hotels you just feel boxed in. Love being able to walk 10 mins for a breakfast with the locals in North Melbourne, or, walk 10 mins to Hardware Lane to catch a bus that will have you in Lygon St, Carlton, or the top of Smith and Brunswick streets in Collingwood/Fitzroy in under 20 mins. This is what Melbourne is all about: discoveries around every corner!

Excellent value for money and super convenient location to Southern Cross station. Comparatively large room for a CBD hotel at this price point. Very clean room with comfy sofa and facilities. Bathroom a little small but includes everything you need for short stay. Breakfast is a basic continental buffet with a few hot options. Great variety of Asian restaurants within walking distance - particularly recommend seeking out the all you can eat Korean BBQ buffet a few blocks walk away.

We had the most amazing stay at the Grand Hyatt. Our booking was upgraded at no extra charge to a room with the most incredible, uninterrupted views of the Melbourne CBD and surrounds. The hotel itself is luxurious and cosy, perfect for our winter getaway. The bed was really comfy and even though we were located in the heart of the city the room was very quiet, we slept so well. The staff were friendly and professional. We'll definitely be back!

This Apartment block is located in a great position. It is only a short walk to the Regent Theatre to see Moullin Rouge before it ends it’s Melbourne season. You can also take advantage of free tram rides in the CBD free ride precinct. The apartments are located in Flinders Lane with a large range of restaurants, cafes and coffee shops. Located literally right behind DFO South Wharf with very accessible portals to it and the Melbourne Convention Centre. It was perfect if I attended a convention, but a little to the edge of central Melbourne (CBD, Docklands, Crown, etc) if my purpose on staying was different. No complaints on the room; it's clean perfect for what they advertise. Easy check-in and check-out.
