Amberlea Cottages proved to be one of the best and cleanest accommodations we encountered during our road trip in the South Island. The hosts were exceptionally friendly. The kitchen was equipped with basic, good-quality cookware necessary for our stay. If you plan to stop at Hokitika, I highly recommend booking this place.

Location, house was so very cleanly presented, everything needed for a comfortable, functioning stay was provided, very comfortable beds, effective heating system. We felt very welcomed. (Gift of a painted Hokitika rock was a sweet touch! ) Very responsive and helpful hosts.

I knew the house was in town, so I was expecting the location to be central. But I wasn’t expecting ocean just a few steps from the backyard terrace. You can literally just jump from the backyard to the most charming driftwood beach. We enjoyed the wonderful sunsets and also stormy sceneries. Big New World -supermarket very close. Gareth was super nice and flexible host and the house was spotless. A good wifi as well. If you’re visiting Hokitika, I couldn’t imagine a better place.

Very comfortable rooms and well equipped kitchen. There was bread, milk and eggs, tea, coffee and spices. That made a big difference! Everything was super clean!
