The country is split into three distinct zones, with the Sahara desert to the north, the Sudanian Savanna to the south, and the Sahel belt stretching across Chad’s torso. Covering 3,000 km², Zakouma National Park lies to the south above the fertile rainforest regions. Inside, you’ll encounter a thriving elephant population which was rescued from the brink of extinction. Alongside those roam giraffes, roan antelopes and over 10,000 buffalo. The northeastern side of Chad is hope to the enchanting Ennedi desert, where weird and wonderfully shaped sandstone rock formations lie scattered across the Sahara. The Aloba arch is one of the most spectacular sights, reaching nearly 120 metres high. A variety of accommodation is available in the capital city of N'Djamena, including well-known chain hotels and some apartments.
