The owner was very friendly and helpful, suggesting the various food places and walking trails in the area. Best of all, the unit is big with a bedroom, living room, kitchen area and toilet. I could certainly have spent many more days there.

AustraliaVery unique stay in the middle of the mountains. It was certainly a small hut, which made for a fun experience as a part of our travels. The toilet is outside, but it was very clean and modern so it was not an issue for us. Check in instructions were very clear. It was interesting to be able to use the record player and the wood stove. We were lucky to have a relatively clear night which allowed us to have a great view of the stars

Rooms are clean and cosy, bath and beds are comfy. In a place that is otherwise rather secluded and barren, you get everything you will need. It's a while since I had last stayed in the village which...
It's a while since I had last stayed in the village which was magical in the winter sun. I loved exploring all the historic sites as well as places I was familiar with from my childhood. I walked the length of the village and then followed the Arthur's Pass Track to Jack's Hut and then into the Bealey Valley. There are plenty of walking tracks to choose from depending on how long you want to walk. There were fewer birds in the bush than I would have liked. Very relaxing area with many outdoor activities to do.
Very relaxing area with many outdoor activities to do. Great for families to walk around Castle Hill around the rock formations or fishing along the rivers and plenty of different walks around the amazing areas. There were mountain biking trails up Porters with the team at Porter's lodge able to drive you back up to the top of the trails. Spend at least 2 days there. We spent one night but could have spent 4-6 days based on the number of short hikes to be done there. Visit the NP office first to help decide what to do with your time. Very warm welcome from owner. A roaring fire, owner who made us dinner. The room was fab, a bed to die for. Clean ensuite bathroom with a sweet shower. Great for Railfans.
Great for Railfans. Trains can be heard close by in the night. Could hear falling water and night birds. Guests have a separate lounge for tea and coffee making. There are a lot of antique and old world features and displays here. All in all, a comfortable place to stay, considering it is in the middle of nowhere.
