Jill and her team are wonderful hosts.Very welcoming and care so well for the needs of their guests If you value a spacious, comfy and nicely decorated room in a historical building with quite a story and also like recommendations about what to see in the area- this is the perfect place. We would definetetly come back as we felt well from the first contact. It is also the perfect location for the last stay out of the Catlins moving North or the first going South Thank you so much, Jill, hope to come by again

Wow.. I liked everything about it. I was made to feel very welcome and was impressed with the attention to detail. From free drinks in the fridge and home made bread for breakfast to the luxury bath robes and towels. The room was beautiful and the bed so good I slept in! I am only sorry I couldn't stay a little longer.

Superb communication with the hosts (via the app and with the info they left in the suite). Unit was exactly as expected. Would recommend this to anyone passing through or looking for a home base to explore the area. Wish I could've stayed longer.

Very comfortable, quiet, spacious and well equipped unit in a lovely garden away from the main highway. Large, comfortable bed and modern shower. Really well designed cottage set in a gorgeous garden with wonderful hosts. The treats were appreciated after a hard days ride. Our host went the extra mile with allowing us to park our bikes a bit earlier and finding some genealogy information for us. The cottage has high quality provisions which adds class to your stay.

The apartment was really big and spacious, with comfortable beds and furnishings and a really well equipped kitchen. Great location in the little town centre, and attached to a pub which served really good food, either to eat in the pub, or to takeaway. An ideal location for us to explore the beautiful Catlins area.

I found Kaka Point had a lovely peaceful community vibe. The weather turned during my short stay there, but that didn't spoil my walk out to the lighthouse at Nugget Point. It was extremely windy with very rough seas, which made me appreciate how hard shipping must have been back in the day.

Owaka is a small village, it has an excellent Inn especially for accommodation. The village has a small but well stocked supermarket, it has two restaurants and two cafes. It is quiet and peaceful. It is well located for visits to sites along the coast. It has a modern museum that gives you information on the history of Owaka it also had an art exhibition.

Loads of wildlife to watch- we saw bellbirds, fantail, a yellow eyed penguin, sealions all within a few meters of where we were staying. We walked over to Jacks Blow hole following the doc track beside the accommodation. We were down for a School reunion but have previously visited sites such as McLean falls, Purakanui falls, Surat bay, Cannibal bay, Curio Bay, Horseshoe falls. All well worth a look around. This is some of New Zealands presitine rainforest and home to many bird species as well as the world's rarest penguins - Hoiho - Yellow Eyed Penguins.

Balclutha is a small rural country town, there all the facilities you need, plenty of places to eat out and shops etc. It is not a city with loads of night life. Dunedin is about an hour away It's a good base to explore the Catlins and the south of the South Island of NZ. The beach at Kaka point is only 20 minutes away there is a street food caravan serves excellent fish and chips. The drive from Balclutha to Cromwell, Queens Town, Wanaka, Milford sound and Lake Takapo are breath taking.

An historic wee town, that is quaint and quirky.

An historic wee town, that is quaint and quirky. We enjoyed the pub meal in the local hotel. The cafe across the road has great coffee and food. Sadly most of the shops were not open, and would only open on appointment. Im sure that if people stopped for an hour or so on the way through to Central Otago, they would find a hidden wee gem and a dollar spent in this community is worth more than a dollar spent in the tourist towns. Support local!
