Olinda Galle is an exquisite hidden gem down a quiet lane near the centre of the city. From the minute you walk in the rustic wooden doors, your breath is taken away by the beautiful central pool and surroundings. The decor is full of incredible antique pieces and thoughtful touches everywhere you look. This hotel has clearly been built by a very accomplished architect and interior designer. Our room had a wrap around balcony with both large sliding doors and teak shuttered windows. In the morning we opened up both and the room was filled with light and a breeze with the sound of birds in the surrounding palms. The bed was amazingly comfortable with crispy white sheets and gorgeous soft pillows. When we came up to bed (after a truly delicious supper of octopus and prawns) we found that the room had been prepared for us with the Roman blinds pulled down and the mosquito net closed around the four poster bed. No stone is left unturned here and the attention to detail from the staff was second to none.

It is a very beautiful place to stay - Breakfast & coffee was amazing and included. Specially the staff were very friendly and did a great service. Special thanks to Tina & Elio for their hospitality! Don't miss out on the signature drinks they offer, my favourite is the coconut infused Negroni. I would definitely come back.

The hotel is amazing, the rooms are spacious and very nice. The environment is so nice - there are white rabbits running freely on the lawns around the pool. The staff, especially Sasini, did everything to make us feel special. There is washing machine in the kitchen area, which was really helpful.

Beautiful colonial building with nice gardens. The rooms are beautiful and the staff are so attentive and helpful. Was the perfect choice after a busy 10 days travelling around Sri Lanka. They upgraded me to a better room which was very kind.

A very stylish and welcoming hotel with really helpful and attentive staff. Madusha, Hirantha and the team could not have been more helpful. Nice large room and a good sized swimming pool. The beach club restaurant and beach are beautifully set out. Overall, a great place to stay for a few days.

The Galle Heritage Villa is really a fantastic place to stay in Galle. Ideally located in a nice central street of the Galle Fort, this beautifully renovated colonial house is perfect. Very warm welcome from the people managing the place, very quiet area and room, at our arrival, and all along the stay. The Villa is decorated with a perfect taste and refinement, large common areas, a nice yard with trees, grass, amchairs and garlands of lights at night. We stayed in one of the 2 rooms at the frist floor. Our room was very accommodating and spacious, with a kettle for making tea and coffee. Here also a refined choice of teas. The bathroom was huge with every possible comfort and nicely decorated. The value for money was really good. Do not hesitate one second!

Special recognition for their commitment goes to Manager Sudath, Malsha and Ishara, as well as the rest of the hotel staff. The food deserves special mention – it's diverse, fresh, and truly delicious. The buffet is well-balanced, offering both local and international dishes. The attention to quality and presentation is truly high, making every meal a pleasure. The hotel itself, although not the newest, is well-maintained, and it's clear that the owners and staff place great emphasis on ensuring guests feel comfortable. The rooms are clean and well-maintained, and the housekeeping service responds quickly to any needs. The hotel's common areas are tidy, and the pool and relaxation areas offer a peaceful atmosphere. The location is also a huge advantage – it's a great base for both exploring the area and spending a few days in complete relaxation. In summary, considering Sri Lanka's conditions and the standard of a 4-star hotel, the Citrus definitely stands out. Excellent cuisine, friendly and professional staff, excellent service, and attention to detail make it a truly relaxing and welcoming place.     This hotel is a pure sweet spot: a combination beautiful sandy beach with nice ocean view through palm trees, excellent and well-trained staff, huge variety of very tasty food, comfortable rooms and excellent management with focus on sustainability. We booked a room with breakfast and intended to dine outside, however upon our arrival a hotel manager Mr Fernando warmly welcomed us and recommended to try dinner buffet... And we did - the best experience (both breakfast and dinner) comparing 5 hotels in Sri-Lanka we visited during our 3 weeks vacation. Additional compliment to the way the hotel is managed - exceptional level of service, safety, sustainability and attention to the guests needs. I can't put in a review all the things we're positevely surprised with this hotel - it far exceeded our expectations, definitely recommend to stay here!

    The resort was beautiful right on the beach and close to all the good cafes and eateries. The best part was the staff they were so very cordial and helpful. I wanted to celebrate my baby's first birthday and they did an excellent job in the decoration and made us feel special. Special mention to Dinushi from the restaurant who was so loving and pampered my daughter a lot. All other staff Sujith, Namal, Nimsara, Malith were also extremely polite and helpful. Janani made a lovely cake for my daughter. Manager Melvin was wonderful too. Overall I recommend this resort to everyone.

    The Galle Fort in Galle is my absolute favorite place — it has a vibe of its own. It’s completely safe at any time of the day, even for solo travelers. There’s so much history within the Fort walls to learn about and beautiful architecture to explore. The hosts at the restaurants and hotels inside the Fort are amazing, and the service is truly of international standard. The view of the Indian Ocean from the Ramparts is simply breathtaking. There are plenty of restaurants offering a wide variety of cuisines and dishes to try. Outside the Fort, I highly recommend visiting the beaches at Unawatuna, just a few kilometers from Galle City Centre. While you’re there, don’t miss the Japanese Peace Pagoda at Rumassala — you won’t regret it! Yaddehimulla Road in Unawatuna has everything from surf schools and restaurants to gem shops, gelato spots, international cuisines, and everything in between. For quick bites and essentials, SPAR Supermarket at Galle City Centre is your go-to place. You’ll find tasty rice and curry meals, ready-to-eat options, mosquito repellent, basic medical supplies, snacks, good-quality fruits, and other everyday necessities.

    Property needs full renovation. Staff needs full training. Needs full cleaning. Food so bad (had dinner & so very disappointed) nothing good to say in any aspect of this hotel. My opinion shouldn’t have any stars

    we stayed here at the end of September so the sea was not as...

    we stayed here at the end of September so the sea was not as calm as it would normally be (or so the locals told us) but you could still go into the sea but maybe not for too long. We enjoyed ambling around the town and going into Gaul more. We used the pool at our hotel more than the beach here.

    We did not venture into Bentota.

    We did not venture into Bentota. We are expats living in Colombo so no need to explore the city. The hotel was at the right spot for a 100% relaxing weekend away with no distractions. The ocean is not that swimmable as the sea was very rough and looked dangerous. The pool was a welcome alternative. We drove to Galle for the Saturday to watch the game between Springboks and Kiwis. That was not too far, one hour away and a very scenic route. The hotel was also fully booked so must be popular.

    I really loved how cozy and clean the hostel was — it felt like home! The staff and owner were super friendly and helpful. The only small thing is that it can get a bit quiet at night, but overall it’s a perfect place to relax.

    There are so many locations to see.good peoples are around & very safe are. I like the place & the area.i had great time durig the vacation.I guess that threre is 1km around to the beach & also there is a logoon.i have experience the boat safari at the lake. I wish if i could stay few more days to enjoy.

    A little town which is friendly colourful with plenty of shops for anything you need …only issue is that like every town in Sri Lanka there is a problem with waste ( plastic bottles) There are several resteraunts and lots of lovely cake shops :-) Everything is very cheap ..food , tuk tuk , train ..and clothes are an outstanding bargain to any visitor Overall a lovely place for great holiday

    Great beach, we felt like Robinson Crusoe on the beach, almost just the 2 of us. Visiting Mahdu Lake at 6 a.m. watching the sun goes up. A natural paradise with a lot of birds and other animals. Listening to their different noises. Dining at the Mangrove Cave Restaurant we enjoyed freshest seafood. It was just very tasty.

    My favourite place was the turtle hatchery.

    My favourite place was the turtle hatchery. Most meals were eaten at the Hotel. Very easy to get around. There is a tour agency opposite the hotel entrance, it cant get any better than that. It is easy to take tuk tuk or van taxis. Superior beach front view. Beautiful gardens and swimming pool. Well done to the management and staff for this top class facility. Local fishermen were easy to approach and social chat with.
