- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 350 reviewsThe food we had during our stay was beyond my expectations. I can be picky sometimes so I thought there would be a couple things I wouldn't eat but I devoured it all. Every single dish was so delicious and I still think about my meals there. We stayed in the kashotei and our room was clean and spacious. We were also given a yukata and a set of pajamas, along with baskets and towels for the onsen. I was glad to have different options. Since we stayed in the kashotei, we were allowed access to a lounge in the sanso. We definitely took advantage of the free ice cream but they also had coffee, tea, and cookies stocked up. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The waters were healing and I loved being able to soak in the outdoor onsen in the rain. It was magical.Guest review bySharnenUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 190 reviewsOyado Tamaki is the perfect cozy getaway, with a welcoming atmosphere and staff who attend to every detail. From the warm greeting with yuzu tea to their helpfulness throughout our stay, the service was impeccable (5/5). Our “Kaede” room had a semi-open-air bath that was incredibly relaxing after a day of exploring. The ambiance is peaceful—especially in the lounge and courtyard—and the ryokan itself beautifully balances traditional Japanese hospitality with modern touches. There were some live Japanese beetles on display (in clearly marked glass jars) near the front desk and, even though the whole stay was great, that was a true unexpected treasure for me! We’ll definitely be returning for the exceptional hospitality and cozy vibe!Guest review byReynUnited States
- From $173.26 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.6Good - What previous guests thought, 187 reviewsPeaceful Location, close enough to the ski park we wanted to visit. We could have stayed our whole trip at the hotel with food options, pool and onsen. The staff was accommodating to us not speaking Japanese and very friendly. The room catered to family with kids slippers, robes and toothbrushes. We enjoyed exploring all the local scenery, waterfalls and beautiful town of Karuizawa. We would love to return again.Guest review byArielJapan

We had a nice view from the large room with a table and chairs and a tatami room, good value. They had shuttle bus to take us to another nearby sister hotel to experience different Onsen.Guest review byTomikoUnited States

Nice location to visit for max two days, touristic but not too over-crowded and people in general very friendly. Some of the Onsen are amazing - if you like it - and the ski resort (if open since top part closes fast with some wind and snow) is small and somewhat outdated, but still nice for 1-2 days. Some restaurants offer good value for money, but reserve on time and be prepared to have diner around 18/18:30 latest since everything closes early.Guest review byJurrienThailand - 10.0
It was a lovely place to visit!
It was a lovely place to visit! We climbed up to the Tenjin observation deck from the trail that begins behind a small shrine. It’s a challenging climb but well-marked and there are ropes the whole way to help pull yourself up tricky parts. We ate at the little Italian restaurant near Tanigawa Lodge and Coffee Roastery which I highly recommend, the pasta is great and they make homemade plum wine. I wish I could have done one more day to enjoy the onsens too.Guest review byNatashaCanada - 10.0

Nakanojo is an amazing area in Shima, giving access to several wonderul onsen and hiking opportunities. A quiet spot that is perfect to relax and enjoy the spa baths. There is a small connivence store for basic goods and several small cafe to grab coffee or other light meals. It is easily walkable for those who like to hike in scenic mountain towns.Guest review byMarkUnited States - 10.0
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains.
It is a beautfiul town high up in the moutains. The toursit part of town centres around the hot spring and the way it is lit these days makes it particularly beautiful at night. There are temples and parks to visit and some quaint little shops. You can stand and watch soba noodles being made by hand and then enjoy them for a very reasonable price. Walk up the hill and around the none touristy parts of town. there are some great family run restaurants serving delicous food at prices the locals pay. Apart from the soba place which is in the toursity part of twon, restaurants in that area are pretty expensive. It gets cold, quite cold, down to -5c in January during my stay. Be aware that getting in and out of the town is via limited timetabled train and bus. Unless you are there for the skiing, get in early in the morning, stay 1 night and get out the next afternoon.Guest review byjonathanAustralia - 10.0

While waiting for the shuttle bus to pick us up in Jomo Kogen, we got suggestion from the lady officer in Information Center to visit Tsukiyono garden. We came in mid April 2025 and there are still a lot of sakura. whereever you shoot your camera, the result of the photo is amazing. there is also a small grocery that serve udon/ramen as well. I bought a watermelon in that grocery and the lady in Udon stall lend me her knife to cut it. the watermelon is very small, compared to what I used to eat in Indonesia, but this minakami watermelon is very juicy and its flesh is so thick yet tender.Guest review byLilyIndonesia
