FAQs about hotels in Val Gardena
Dream Valley of the Dolomites
Situated between 1,250 and 1,550 metres above sea level, Val Gardena is part of the South Tyrol region of Italy. The Gardena River runs alongside it, surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites. Populated by a Latin-speaking majority, its fabric mixes Austrian and Italian traditions.
Sasso Lungo Mountain (3,181 metres) is probably one of the most iconic symbols of the valley, while the Puez-Odle Natural Park also includes some of the highest peaks of the valley. A large part of Val Gardena hotels are in Selva, precisely because the town is located between the Sasso Lungo and the Park. Ortisei and Santa Cristina are the other 2 towns in the valley.
Val Gardena is also celebrated for the quality of its handcraftsmanship, particularly for the woodcarvers specialised in religious statuary. Nonetheless, it counts with beautiful refuges and restaurants located in the mountains, offering delicious meals accompanied with breath-taking views.
But it’s during winter that the valley offers its most renowned side: Val Gardena’s ski facilities are some of the best of Europe. The very fast Saslong World Cup track or the Sella Ronda are legendary.

- From US$431.24 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 268 reviewsAngelo Engel was our favourite hotel out of all of the places we stayed during our honeymoon. The entire place has incredible charm, having been kept in and managed by the same family for 4 generations. We only spent 3 nights there, but the staff knew us and made us feel very welcome. The buffet breakfast was truly exceptional - with an array of different jams and honeys, cold cuts, breads, and hot offerings - and some of the best filter coffee I have ever had. Dinner was equally as impressive, with 5 courses on the menu, excellent service, and assigned seating; the whole affair made us feel very special. Facilities are excellent, with a very relaxing sauna and spa area to be enjoyed and a large heated pool.Guest review byIsaacAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 124 reviewsFormidable stay at a formidable hotel. Price more than well worth for what's offered. For a tired backpacker it was lovely to make use of the spa. Attentive staff and friendly athmosphere. The optional five course-dinner was a great deal. Free mountain guide for daytrips was unexpected but much appreciated, especially for the solo traveller. Great location next to the bus stop, with only 30 minutes to the train in Ponte Gardena, so it works brilliant for train travellers. And with all the buses running through the valley (free fare card!) it is a great base camp for exploring the entire area. This was really a top notch hotel experience, thank you!Guest review byAnnaSweden
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 43 reviewsThe owner is very kind person. As she presents the place, it is a farm house. In fact it is totally rebuild house with all modern facilities. So it is “farm” house for city persons 😉 Very nicely decorated, a lot of natural wood. Nicely located. You do not need to use any ski bus or your private car as first ski lift is at ski boots walking distance from which you have access to 500+ km of Dolomite slopes! Quiet, you can sleep well. Also undergrad parking and ski room very convenient.Guest review byAndrzej_AndrzejPoland

We definitely plan to make Platz part of our plans when we travel again! And the views!! Incredible! Each day, they put together a little daily menu, which included hiking trails in the area~ just wonderful! We will be back!Guest review byPeterUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 240 reviewsThis really is a boutique hotel. The spa/wellness area is so nice. Plenty of free parking. Rooms are big and beds comfortable. They only offered half-board when we were there. The breakfast buffet had a great selection. Dinner was different a-la-carte-menu for each of our two evenings with several selections for starter, main course and dessert. Staff was both attentive and helpful, f.ex. about hiking and driving routes.Guest review byFinnurIceland

They emailed me the guest pass transportation registration link 2 weeks before the trip for my better planning and anticipation. Andreas even helped fixing issue for my next hotel! As for the hotel itself, superb location at the centre of everything; nice room and clean. Welcoming staff at breakfast. If I am visiting again, I will definitely come back!Guest review byAliceHong Kong
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.4Superb - What previous guests thought, 142 reviewsHotel Edda is excellent; great accommodation, friendly and professional staff, great food, pleasant atmosphere everywhere. The hotel manager is professional and resourceful in all situations. An excellent move is the hiring of international staff (I highlight the excellent waitress Danijela), because this contributes to a better connection with guests who are from various countries.Guest review byRobertCroatia

This is further to my previous review on Garni Rives.
This is further to my previous review on Garni Rives. I gave the hotel a review that reflects my honest opinion, mainly about the manager/host of the hotel. Obviously my review was not received with warmth from the hotel manager. He messaged me immediately via Whatsapp and blamed me being not polite to him, I have no idea where does this come from. I believe he has broken the golden rule of being in me the hospitality industry, if he cannot accept honest reviews, how can he improve to thrive on? The hotel itself is OK and the only problem I have is the steep climb (not the hotel's fault) and mainly the manager's manner.Guest review byAnthonyAustralia - 10.0

For those who may not know, Val Gardena is comprised of three distinct areas; Selva, Ortisei and Santa Cristina. My advice on where to stay is to try and figure out which mountain ranges you plan on hitting. That said, all three locations are very close together, and you can access them all within ten minute on the same bus. Personally, I would stick to Selva or Ortisei simply because of their access to vastly different mountain areas. Santa Cristina is snuggled between the two and didn't have as much to offer, IMO.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Because of the two gondolas accessible in town, we were able to explore both sides and experience a variety of terrain, none extremely challenging which worked for our various fitness levels. The views are stupendous and the convenience of the huts along the trails for lunch, a drink or even a break from the rain were fantastic. We didn't need to worry about packing snacks or lunches, and instead enjoyed reasonably priced, delicious meals along our hikes.Guest review byCarmenUnited States - 10.0

Great base near many cable cars to get up the hills and enjoy the walking and views. Free buses between all the villages is a great help and they run regularly. We stayed 5 nights and then went over to just south of Cortina for a further 5 nights which was a really good balance to explore different areas of the Dolimites with less driving.Guest review byFrederiqueUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house!
We really enjoyed our stay in this holiday house! Great location – very close to the cable cars that take you to Seceda and Monte Pana in the beautiful Dolomites. The area is peaceful and scenic, perfect for a relaxing getaway. The hosts were very kind, welcomed us with gifts, and gave us great tips on what to see and do nearby. The house had everything we needed: brand-new beds, super comfortable mattresses, and the host kindly provided lower pillows upon request. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We stayed on the ground floor – although the weather was rainy, it was always warm inside thanks to the heating. A perfect place for both active holidays and peaceful rest – highly recommended!Guest review byAntanasLithuania - 10.0

A lovely town in the valley with plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants but also gave easy access up into the mountains via cable car/funicular. Also easy to get the bus to St Christina and Selva for other cables cars and walks. The Val Gardena mountains are simply stunning with plenty of great walking accessible from OrteseiGuest review byNicholasUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites.
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites. Hotels and Apartments are plentiful and in every price level. You can choose from so many hikes (all different levels) you can fill 3 weeks. Depending what other locations are on your itinerary, 3 days allow you to see the highlights and get a sense of the beauty of the Dolomites. Yet, it's easy to fill a week. Summer like winter.Guest review byMichaelGermany - 10.0

Santa Cristina Val Gardena is an absolute gem in the Dolomites. The town perfectly balances peaceful Alpine charm with great access to outdoor adventures. It's smaller and quieter than nearby Ortisei or Selva, which made it feel more authentic and relaxing, but it still offers everything you need — cozy cafes, excellent restaurants, and beautiful walking paths right from the center.Guest review byPaweł SadowskiPoland
