Windermere town centre is small but has plenty of cafes and restaurants to meet all food lovers types. There are a good selection of shops for gifts etc. and all are within a few hundred yards and not too far from the railway station or buses to travel to other parts of the lakes. It is also a 10 to 15 minute walk to Bowness (downhill) which is also the place to hop on to the lake boats or alternative dining or shopping and the Beatrix Potter experience. My pictures are of the lake side in BownessGuest review byNigelUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I do like Ambleside area and Log House isn't in the town centre which I prefer, the town centre is almost a mile from Log House but you can get a bus into the centre if needed. Also you can get the boat from Waterhead Pier which is just a short walk from Log House and goes to Bowness and also Lakeside and you can get buses/trains to Keswick and Kendal and lots of other places around the lakes. And Hayes Garden Centre is just minutes away and is one of the largest in the area, lots to see and do and eat in there. As I was there just for one night I just took my own filled rolls and milk and biscuits but if had been a longer stay would have either gone to Hayes Garden Centre for a meal or over the road to Bassa and there are plenty eating places in the area. I like Bowness too and have stayed there for many years and plenty cafes, restaurants and fish and chip shop and ice cream shops and souvenir shops too.Guest review byChristineUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Fantastic stay as a last minute decision for our family of 5 and the dog. Friendly welcome and freshly cleaned pod on arrival. Spacious enough for us all - even my 6ft4 husband slept well. Pods heated up quickly and held the heat nicely through the night. Toilets and showers were clean and had hooks on the doors for keeping clothes dry etc. We didn’t use the kitchen area but it was clean and spacious. Games room had plenty of seating and a table tennis table but no rackets or ball unfortunately. The campfire area was loved by our children in the evening. Enough parking space and close to lots of local walks and experiences. There were bikes on site that could be hired which would be a great family activity but I’m not sure on the pricing.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Pretty hamlet with 2 excellent pubs serving great food.
Pretty hamlet with 2 excellent pubs serving great food. Easy walking area from the hamlet and access to more challenging walking not far away. Away from the tourist traps of the Lake District. Would recommend eating at The Hare and Hounds for upmarket gastro pub food. The Masons Arms also serves good pub food. The Punchbowl at Crosthwaite is a 10 min drive away and is a very good restaurantGuest review bydsabiniUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Excellent location for the frequent Lakeland buses which meant we could bus to one place, walk over the hills or catch a boat, and catch a different bus back. No parking worries. The Spar at the garage is very well stocked.Guest review byJanetUnited Kingdom
