FAQs about hotels in Normandy
Remembering the Past, Relishing the Present
Bordered by the English Channel, Normandy is a sleepy French region that sees many visitors arrive via its major seaports – Cherbourg, Dieppe, Le Havre and Ouistreham.
Between these last 2 is Deauville, home to some of the most exclusive Normandy hotels by the beach. Its pristine sands and international film festival have secured its prestige for the glitterati. The surrounding region of Calvados is famous for its cider and brandy, and Normandy also home to camembert cheese.
Calvados was also the site of the Allied landings and Booking.com has a great range of B&Bs and hotels near D-Day beaches. Caen, the Normandy capital, is a lovely city that houses the Memorial for Peace, a museum detailing the effects of conflict, and World War II in particular. North of here in Bénouville is Pegasus Bridge, while the D-Day beaches span from Ouistreham to Arromanches, home to another of Normandy’s WWII museums.
Inland is the Bayeux tapestry, a huge, hand-stitched depiction of the Norman conquest of England. Off the region’s western shores are the Channel Islands, while at its south-west corner are Avranches and nearby Mont Saint-Michel, accessed via a causeway.
Other Normandy attractions include Rouen, a historic city with colourful, half-timbered houses and an archaeology museum housing finds from the Roman amphitheatre down the Seine River in Lillebonne.

- From US$155.56 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.1Very good - What previous guests thought, 2,658 reviewsWe loved this hotel. The staff were very friendly and always on hand if you needed anything. The pool area was perfect. Children are only allowed in at certain times so great if you were without children. But if you do have children like us, they loved the pool! The room was spacious with a separate twin room within the room perfect for our small family. We will be back the next time we’re in Honfleur.Guest review byBrandonUnited Kingdom

The view to the beautiful garden of the property is gorgeous. Our breakfast was brought in a picknick basket to the room and prepared from a wide range of delicious things we could choose from for every taste. Everyone of the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Many thanks!Guest review byJosefina & WolfgangAustria

Small open city with tons of history. Much of the centre is pedestrianised or with very limited traffic. Easy to get around on foot and has something to see around almost every corner. For drivers, there is ample parking at modest cost.Guest review byLarryIreland - 10.0

The Abbeys are stunning, the town is flat so easy to walk around. There are regular markets, the Sunday one we went to was quite big with lots of fresh food. The harbour is a nice spot with a line of bars and restaurants nearby, my favourite being an Irish bar (O'Donnells) for a well kept pint (or three) of Guinness!Guest review byRaymondUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Quaint streets, plenty of bars/restaurants, it has a lovely, relaxed vibe. We rarely revisit holiday destinations but this was our 5th visit to Honfleur and our 3rd stay. The only negative for me is the way many of the eateries stop serving food each afternoon, making it difficult with toddler grandchildren who need to eat before the 6.30 - 7pm reopening.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Beautiful town, great location to take a trip to Normandy beaches. The tapestries were moved to the UK and the Tapestry museum closed on Sept 1st for two years! Most restaurants were closed on Sunday and Monday and you definitely need a reservation for dinner if you want a good meal. some restaurants were closed on Tuesday too! If you take a full day tour of Normandy I would suggest staying the night at Bayeux because there is traffic at the end of the day heading back to Paris.Guest review bytoni - 10.0

We arrived in late afternoon at hotel and toured island first in evening hours - great idea as less crowded and still light enough to wander the streets and alleys. Toured the abbey the next morning - around 11. Already getting crowded - should have started earlier. But well organized and flows well within the Abbey. Well worth the visit to see this unique and historic structure - magical.Guest review byPeterUnited States - 10.0

The cliffs of Étretat are spectacular and definitely worth a visit, but note that lots of other people think that too! So there are crowds of people, tourists from all over the world in this small seaside town. Parking is difficult to find or you have to park 1,5 km away from the town center.Guest review byIEVAGermany - 8.0

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.Guest review byCLIVEUnited Kingdom
