FAQs about hotels in Loire Valley
Castles, Vineyards and Views
Boasting a staggering number of castles, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Loire Valley also has picturesque vineyards and riverside towns. Once noble retreats, many of the region’s chateaux are now hotels on Booking.com.
With an imposing castle as well as charming half-timbered buildings, Angers is the meeting point of 3 rivers that flow into the Loire. One of these, the Sarthe, continues to Le Mans, a historic town famous for its 24-hour car race, while Saumur is best known for its horse shows and square castle overlooking the Loire.
Chinon’s large hilltop castle once housed French and English kings, while Villandry castle hosted discussions between the 2 nations. Its beautiful gardens are in geometric patterns, similar to those by Chenonceaux castle spanning the Cher River.
Between the 2 is Tours with its towering cathedral and colourful medieval core. Amboise is a little further east and has a chateau overlooking the region’s typical stone buildings with grey roofs. It also has several Loire Valley hotels with pools.
Blois has yet another royal castle, though its understated exterior doesn’t prepare you for the incredible interior. Nearby Chambord has the largest and most magnificent castle, and the Loire continues to Orléans, a medieval city famed for Joan of Arc and an amazing cathedral. At the opposite end of Sologne Forest is a fabulous cathedral in Bourges.

There is lots to see and learn about Nantes.
There is lots to see and learn about Nantes. If you are interested in history Nantes has plenty. You can spend a day in the Chateau just looking at its history. Would have liked more time to explore the wine areas and their muscadet.Guest review byRodneyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The lady in the Tourist Office was very helpful.
The lady in the Tourist Office was very helpful. Buses, trams and local trains were all free on that Saturday. Sunday all the shops were open with sales tables and racks in the pedestrianised streets.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Located on the banks of the Loire River, Orléans is a historic city known for its strong connection to Joanne d'Arc, who famously liberated it in 1429. The city center offers nice streets, timber-framed houses, and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for walking and exploring. Main highlights include: Sainte-Croix Cathedral – Gothic architecture Place du Martroi – central square with Joan of Arc’s statue Old Town – charming streets, shops, and caffés Museums – Museum of Fine Arts and Joan of Arc House Surroundings worth exploring: Loire Valley Castles – Chambord, Blois, Chenonceaux, Amboise, Sully, (short drive away) Wine routes & vineyards – ideal for tastings and day trips A great base for discovering the heart of the Loire Valley — with a perfect mix of culture, history, and countryside relaxation.Guest review byIustinianRomania - 10.0

I was surprised at the rugged/natural appearance of the Loire. The historical ambience of Blois; the gardens;the castle;the views, the shopping; altogether a very good experience and everything easily accessible from The Beelodge Hotel which I recommend.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Angers city is easily accessible from Nantes by train.
Angers city is easily accessible from Nantes by train. (35Mins). Take a walk along the far side of the old bridge from the food hall and find the restaurants sited along the river bank, where most of the locals hang out. River boat trips can also be booked from this location. The Chateau museum is well worth a visit and provides a history and views of the city.Guest review byGarry RoystonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Amboise is a great town to visit. Lots of lovely shops & restaurants in the town especially the Lebanese restaurant. The chateau d'amboise is lovely & the chateau clos de luce & gardens are fabulous. Tours is only 35 minute drive from amboise & the village of chedigny is 35 minutes away also. It's beautiful. Will definitely be back again.Guest review byMaryIreland - 10.0

Saumur is a gem of a town, there are so many activities that you can participate in, whether cycling, kayaking, walking around the historic town or going for the famous degustation at one of the numerous vineyards that are within easy distance. It is also the gateway to dozens of chateau. There are cruises on the river to suit most budgets and restaurants from the basic to the expensive. There are also various markets and festivities that take place. If you have time the Petits Train is a must, forty minutes being driven around the historic town gives you a new perspective on life, especially the view from the right bank which lets you enjoy the historic panorama on the left bank.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom - 6.0

I needed to find a bed without any dinner or other facilities late in the day and only for the night as would be moving on early the next day. Therefore cost was the primary concern. It was cheap and the bed comfortable, though the room noisy when other guests were moving around the building or noisy in their rooms. Don't take breakfast option, it was poor value and not as you might expect when at reception. Behind reception is a pleasant looking restaurant, however breakfast for this hotel is in a side room which is not so pleasant and with not a great selection of food and drink. Check in staff did not make this clear when option offered at check in.Guest review byPatrickGermany - 6.0

An interesting town, at least in the older central area around the church (or cathedral). Seemed full of life with interesting shops and restaurants. Also a wide selection of local wines on sale. We only stayed a single night on our way further south, and would certainly come here again next time we travel this way.Guest review byRobinUnited Kingdom
