Stayed at four different resorts across Fiji as part of our honeymoon and this was probably our favourite. Small enough to really care, it's a beautiful, private resort with very friendly, approachable staff embedded in the local community. There's loads to do, decent food (catering fairly well for vegetarians), and all for a reasonable price.

What did I like? Where do I start? I liked...no, I loved every minute of my stay at Maqai. It is as close to paradise as I'll allow my pragmatic mind to entertain. From the relative remoteness to the natural beauty, the super-relaxed atmosphere to the genuine warmth of the staff, this is a very special place. More of a traveller vibe than that of the well-worn tourist path of the islands closer to Nadi. Slightly rustic? Sure, but only in the best possible way. Cathy (manager) ran as tight a ship as possible on a tropical island in the Pacific. She was welcoming and prompt with her email replies to my questions regarding all the various water sports and cultural experiences on the island. In no particular order, the following staff members quickly began to feel like old friends...Navo, Etta, Sala, Emosi, Soni, Tui, Junior, Jale, Johnny, Mama's Soke & Luce, Netta and Suki (four legged and furry). They all exude such an authentically friendly yet service oriented approach to their individual roles. I can't speak highly enough of how they looked after me. It is up to you how much or how little activity you schedule into your day on Qamea. Highlights included surf trips to the outer reefs, snorkelling and lunch on the Island Tour, the Sunday morning village visits and church service, and the food. Crikey, the food. I had to ask for slightly less portions by dinner time, or I would have no room left for evening kava with the locals! If you're reading this review and considering/comparing it with other options in Fiji, fair enough, but I honestly feel it is a rare and rich experience worth every cent and the added travel time to get there. Excellent breakfast with many choices. The owner helped me organize great activities during my stay. The place is beautifully landscaped and has a view of the ocean.

Wonderful hospitality from Biu, Mila and the all family. The sharing of daily life, the moments spent in the kitchen with the cooks and Grandpa’s nightly songs with his grand children..Incredible food and discovery of true Fijian gastronomy. As far as outdoor and water activities were concerned, we were unlucky, due to cyclone « Rae »but the reefs seemed fantastic!

Best place in fiji. Very very nice people, good Ford (fresh fishes from the sea), fantastisc rief snorckeling. Next time I am staying länger. Werner

Breakfast was exceptional every day something new every morning and even dinner. Location was very close to the airport and hosts were very friendly helpful and we were treated like families. Vina'a Master Sam Sera and family not forgetting our driver Naita Dreu.

The caretakers were awesome. It was easy to organise everything through the owner. Diving and snorkeling next door. Great kitchen set up. Insane views! Comfortable bed and living space . So peaceful and private.
