Sion is the capital of the Canton of Valais in southwestern Switzerland. It's a city rich in history and serves as a gateway to the Alps, with easy access to popular ski resorts like Crans-Montana and Verbier, as well as a wide range of hiking trails. It is also well known for its wine. If you travel around this area, you will see a lot of vineyards. The city is charming, surrounded by mountains with old building still being occupied and nice cafés and restaurants everywhere. I love visiting the French-speaking parts of Switzerland for the delicious French food and pastries.Guest review byWah YongSwitzerland - 8.0
Many drag lifts, few chairs.
Many drag lifts, few chairs. Paradise for people who get vertigo from chairs. Everything works, but nothing is ultra modern or high speed. Mountain restaurants high quality. Self catering groceries ultra expensive, as is normal for Switzerland. Very good coverage by snow cannons so skiing was maintained to end of season.Guest review byEdmond - 10.0

Arolla is located at the end of the Val d'Hérens, a long valley leading deep into the high Alps. Arolla itself is a very small place with just a few hotels, but the villages of Les Haudères, Evolène and La Sage, a little lower down in the valley are old, very traditional mountain villages in beautiful locations. There are many hiking trails that lead from Arolla into the forests and high mountain lakes - Lac Bleu (Blue Lake) is best know and somewhat overcrowded in the summer, but a beautiful hike. And there are plenty of other less crowded trails. Experienced mountain guides are available for the many climbing opportunities above the hiking trails.Guest review byNicholasUnited States - 10.0

Beautiful town, stunning location , easy to get to , regular bus service, mountains , river walks , breathtaking flowers , friendly people. For me a perfect place and everything you could want for a well kept rural town with amenities in a low key non showy way .Guest review byRachelUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The town is an absolute gem to discover.
The town is an absolute gem to discover. The views are amazing. There was a little town centre where we managed to get our supplies. The town is a must to drive around in. We drove there and made a short trip to Tasch and then took the train to Zermatt, where we visited Matterhorn mountain and this was an unforgettable experience.Guest review byAnonymous - 4.0

The problem was that the owner was in hospital when we arrived, and we had not been advised of anything. So we had to find somewhere else. Then Booking tells us that the owner would be there the next day (doubtful given she had an infectious disease), while we had already booked somewhere else for our stay. Booking then had the temerity to charge us for the two nights we were not there. No point in resisting - a bit like Easy Jet, easy to order, a nightmare to get reimbursed. Not impressed at all by Booking, after all these years as a customer.Guest review byRichardSwitzerland - 8.0

I enjoyed Veysonnaz.
I enjoyed Veysonnaz. We picked it to be a slower pace than Zermatt, where we went first, so it gave us a different experience than Zermatt, which was what we were looking for. Much more quint and slower paced and certainly less crowded. The views are spectacular from almost anywhere. Great ski bus service. Nice servers in the restaurants and good food. The people at LeTerrasse & Greppon Blanc were great. It is unfortunate that there is a drought going on right now.Guest review byKimUnited States - 10.0
Arolla is a gem of the Alps.
Arolla is a gem of the Alps. Unlike its neighbour Zermatt it is unspoilt. A good variety of hikes up to alpine huts and lakes. The more adventurous can hire a guide and trek on the glaciers or climb the various peaks such as Pigne d’Arolla or L’aguile de Tsar. The Arolla forest is especially pretty and peaceful and accessible.Guest review byAnonymousBelgium - 10.0

My aim was to escape the city rate race, so I decided to visit, hike & take photos of the Lac Blue & the charming village of Evolène & Dent Blanche. Which was a worthwhile idea to mentally relax, listen to my self and enjoy the silence of my solitude. A couple of pints with a wood oven Pizza from the restaurant downstairs were the highlight of my Saturday evening after a shattered hike. Driving to Evolène was easy & straight forward, all I had to do was to click on booking location link which took me right away to Google map then I listened to GPS instructions where I found myself at the door step after the exact suggested GPS travel time. It couldn't be easier. Two things I have regretted, 1) to stay longer than 2 days & 2) to get my self Nordic stick when it comes mountain hiking & tricking.Guest review bySOWEDASwitzerland
