There are two national parks close by, Bwindi and Mgahinga, where the world famous mountain gorillas can be seen. A truly unique and unforgettable experience!!! The local name of this Island is Njuyeera, which means the “White House” in the local Rukiga language; it has a great history. For about 50 years, it was the home of Dr. Leonard Sharp, a missionary and doctor in the early years of the 20th century. Dr. Sharp and his wife developed a beautiful home and made this island a unique place. If you visit it now, you dine in the original house and experience the joy of an impressive botanical garden. There are many different plants and flowers from East Africa, and a vast population of exotic birds, which can only be found in this area. The island also offers a spectacular view of the lake and its surroundings from all different angles. The Sharp Island Lodge offers a combination of African flair and European standards.
