Villa "La Chaulée" is unique in its kind. It combines the Mauritian two stories creole style house (heavy braced timber frame, galvanised steel gable roof and undercut gallery and balcony, four entrances containing double-leafed doors with shutters ( 2 on 1st floor and 2 on ground floor), veranda leading to the swimming pool) and an interior entirely furnished with solid teak handcrafted furniture collected during our extensive stay abroad in Africa and the Slavic countries.
Lots of original paintings hang on the walls everywhere in all the rooms and kitchen. There is an aura of elegant style resulting from this constant search for originality and uniqueness that is at the base of the character and personality of this house.
Many of our past guests have said that this house has a soul, that they have been captivated by its beauty and elegance, its warmth and appealing "quietude" that impact so positively on the quality of their stay here.
Our lush tropical garden is the crown in the jewel. We can pride ourselves in stating that villa "La Chaulée" is the only rented house within the vicinity to offer such a variety of multicoloured and fragrant plants, not only pleasant to the eyes but to the sense of smell also. At night when these aromatic plants exhale their fragrance, it is very captivating, intoxicating to be surrounded by such elusive and ethereal scent that permeates the calm and dark tropical atmosphere.
Life here is meant to be shared with nature, the pool, the beautiful kiosk, the numerous birds that co-habit with us and the other creatures that roam the property, There is a perfect balance between flora and fauna to form the perfect ecosystem.
We even have two giant Aldabra tortoises that have grown in our parc from infancy to adulthood (they are now 18 yrs old and need two strong men to lift them up). They are the best attraction for our lodgers, especially the children who love to touch them, feed them and have pictures taken with them.
My husband and I have lived in 13 countries during those last decades. We have encountered numerous people from all walks of life. Our way of life then required that we constantly meet with all kinds of people. And so, when the decision was made to move to Mauritius in Grand Baie to our holiday house, we considered building a second house on the property for our family and friends coming on visit.
This house now is being rented, but blocked when family and friends come for holidays. We enjoy the company of our guests next door and love to interact with them, without trespassing on their intimacy and their want of privacy. The villa is completely independent and fenced. We like to exchange views and ideas on lots of subjects and depending on the interests and curiosities of our guests we would adapt to all situations.
My personal interests are: fine art, oil painting, ceramic painting, restoring antic furniture and objects around our two houses, caring for animals and birds and ornamental chickens, interior decoration, cooking elaborate dishes, going to the gym every day and participating in collective classes, bodybuilding, kick boxing, working with pearls ,crystals and beads to decorate my own personal clothings (I customize everything that I wear), going to the beach.........
