Årc is "a Commons, not just an accommodation." It is collectively funded and operated as a co-op by a group of Co-Owners who live in cities like Tokyo and travel to Yakushima as a part of their 1.5-base lifestyle, residing both in the city and occasionally on the island. Årc serves as a shared home for these Co-Owners and is simultaneously open as a guesthouse for travelers and a community space for locals. Our aim is not to provide the comfort or hospitality services typically expected from hotels. Instead, we see hosts and guests as people "sharing life on Yakushima" rather than as "service providers and customers." We hope to foster a natural, human connection between all who stay here. While the bedrooms are thoughtfully designed to ensure quality sleep, they are simple in layout and space. Apart from using your room for reading or introspection, we encourage you to spend time on the common area’s wooden deck, join meals in the shared kitchen, or gather by the fire, connecting with nature and others in an authentic way.
