Family of 4 stayed in Taurus room for 6.
Excellent stay! Big thanks to the team! You won’t find a better staff! The lodge owners take care of their staff and the staff took great care of us!
Daily breakfast and shuttles to local mountains were the perfect way to start each day!
Shuttle: Staff was very accommodating when we wanted rides to restaurants and the walk back was reasonable; 25 minutes was the longest walk and was quite pleasant even in a light snow.
Location: there are 10 ski resorts that are all different, so unless you wanted to stay on one and stay there, the location doesn’t really matter. We went to several different and the shuttle system the lodge runs was great! Starfall was also a 10 minute walk one way to the bus terminal and 10 the other to the train.
Room was great! Beds were comfortable and plenty of space in our room. Closet had a waist high shelf perfect for a full size suitcase and more. Lots of hangers. Warm heater.
Facilities were awesome-we had two daughters (9, 13) with us. They were very comfortable and had a great time with the staff.
There are 6 toilets in private set ups. Never had to wait to use the bathroom.
The two showers were also great. Warm outer rooms to undress/dress and spacious showers with two shower heads; nice hot water! We never had to wait for a shower either.
Dry room: very helpful and had our ski gear nice and toasty in the AM! If anything, the room was a little hot while getting ready, but we just stepped out onto the covered porch to finish dressing for the slopes!
Overall-can’t recommend enough!

We saw monkeys in the trees while admiring their spectacular mountain and valley views. The love put into this building shows. You can feel it in every room. Our family of four stayed comfortably in one room with five comfortable futons on tatami. There are two toilet rooms, double sinks, and a shower/tub room that is shared with other guests. It is set up very well and was no problem sharing. There is also a washing machine/dryer if needed for ¥300. The curry dinner was delicious and they even offered a vegan stew that was gluten free for a member of our family. We enjoyed the 5 sake tasting served by Erica, who was delightful. All staff spoke English and could not have been nicer. Our son had an earache and needed medical attention and the owner did not stop trying to help until he found a hospital with an ENT to see us that day! The staff deserves more praise than I have words. We loved this stay. Highlight of our trip. Very relaxing, zen place to be after hiking the Nakasendo trail.

Marina and staff, words cannot express how they went above and beyond, over and over. Best Hostel/Guesthouse ever.
Great well run hostel with large mixed capsule dormitory and some smaller private rooms right next to Nagano Station - ladies dormitory avail.
Great facilities, everything new, modern and spotlessly clean. Huge wooden bunk beds in the dorms which are much more spacious than the usual hostel dorm beds. Perfect location on a main shopping street. Helpful, friendly staff and a nice common room to meet other guests. I've stayed in a lot of hostels and this is was perhaps my favourite ever in terms of comfort.
Best bunk beds, matresses and (supersoft) bedsheets I've had during my entire stay in Japan. Very comfortable, large beds and the indoor air climate of the dorms is well controlled. Bathrooms are clean and common kitchen is well equipped. Location is perfect, close to main attractions and still only 15 mins walking from the train station (but Matsumoto is not that big anyway). The street is a pedestrian little shopping street, so very quiet at night as well. I loved my stay and would recommend this hostel to anyone going to Matsumoto.
great location. clean. friendly safe. breakfast.
I highly recommend this place if you're going to ski on a pretty low budget !!!!!! The Pilot Lodge is a comfy place, located at 10 meters from a bus stop that can bring you for free to several ski slopes in 10min, the staff is really accommodating, there is two bathes that you can use on your own and the hostel provides reductions for the ski passes and for a gear rental shop that can pick you up and bring you with your gear ! Thank you so much for everything :)
Very friendly hostel, in a great location not too far from Matsumoto castle. Rooms are Japanese style, with lots of space in the dorms. I had a large suitcase with me and there was plenty of storage space for it beside my futon! Lovely staff as well, great vibe in the hostel overall.
The room was well equipped with cheap video on demand, free WiFi, a phone, safe, kettle, amenities in the lobby such as razors & toothbrushes and the shower having both a handheld head and rainfall style was incredible. The vending machines and clothes washing facilities in the lobby were useful and the staff were very polite and nice.
The hostel is in a great location and so quiet. The staff are really helpful, but best of all you could feel the history of the place. We are a family of four (two boys aged 13 & 11) and all thought it was the best hostel we’ve stayed at - friendlier, more fun and better than many hotels. Would stay there happily again.
