I recently had the pleasure of staying at Shogo's home, and I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience. This 150-year-old historical building, offers a charming blend of tradition and modern comfort for a memorable stay. Shogo, the owner, was incredibly attentive and helpful throughout my stay. He went above and beyond to ensure that I had a comfortable and enjoyable visit. Not only did he provide excellent recommendations for local restaurants, but he also made reservations on my behalf. The location was nice and easy to find if you go by a car, with the added bonus of having an onsen and a supermarket nearby. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a welcoming atmosphere.

Ryochi was an awesome host and helped me out with an issue I had with my baggage getting stuck. Not speaking japanese, it's hard to contact companies but Ryochi took the time to call the companies for me and fix my problem!

We are so happy we chose this temple for our stay in Koyasan. It was quiet and peaceful and the staff was very kind. The morning ceremonies were definitely an important part of the experience. The place felt much less crowded compared to the other temple stays that we passed by in town, which we really appreciated. It has a nice garden and a relaxing indoor onsen, available for guests in the evenings.

The location, the story behind the tempel (see samurai armor) and the magical atmosphere makes this temple and temple stay incredible. The large rooms are authentic, clean and exceptionally well maintained. We had a view upon the Japanese garden from the seating area in our room. A must do for any trip to Japan! Also the evening cemetery tour is incredible. Great stories and legends.

A sacred stay I’ll never forget Staying at this guesthouse in Fuki was an absolute blessing. Akemi and Tomo are truly special people—so kind, thoughtful, and welcoming. I felt safe, cared for, and deeply supported throughout my stay. Their warmth and presence made all the difference, especially as I was traveling solo. The guesthouse itself is a beautifully preserved traditional Japanese home, full of charm and quiet energy. The village, with only around 200 people, offers an authentic glimpse into life near Kōyasan—deeply connected to nature, community, and spirituality. I was incredibly lucky to have the entire house to myself, and even more so to receive a private tour of Kōyasan from the hosts, which was personal and full of insight. Although the weather was unexpectedly cold for this time of year, the hosts did their best to keep the space warm, offering extra blankets and heaters. Just be aware that heaters typically can’t be left on overnight, so it can get chilly. Even with that, I would absolutely rate the stay as exceptional. The home-cooked breakfasts and dinners were a highlight—delicious, nourishing, and made with so much care. I also spent a peaceful day resting, reading, writing, and enjoying the slow rhythm of the village. It was a deeply grounding and meaningful experience. If you’re looking for something quiet, real, and full of heart, this is the place. I left feeling incredibly grateful.

We loved the attention to detail, especially the vintage record player with Japanese vinyls and how well stocked the kitchen was (oil, spices, rice, coffee etc. - the best we had in Japan!). Staff was very accommodating. Very spacious, perfect for our group. We had to change the group size due to a mistake of our own and it was very easy to resolve, thank you for that. We had a great time!

Great hosts, good location, very clean and comfortable. Lucky to have their restaurant on site for dinner - one of nicest meals we had in Japan - that is, home cooked by Guest House owner, an outstanding chef.

Very friendly and accommodating hosts! The guest house was at a great location (very close to the bus stop and a convenience store) and the family room was very spacious and clean. Would definitely stay here again and I highly recommend it if you are not planning to do a temple stay at Koyasan! I also highly recommend visiting the cafe - great croissants and drinks!

Great location right in the heart of koyasan town. Very convenient to walk to any attractions nearby. Room facilities are up to bar with some 2-3 star hotel I have been to. Tommy is a super friendly host. He recommends a lot of great local experiences from places to have dinner to different trekking trails and temple rituals you can attend for free. Tommy and his wife run a cafe next door and it’s open from 8am which is a rare thing in koyasan (most shops open at 11am). You get a big discount if you stay at Tommy guest house too ❤️

Tommy Guest House is one of the few guesthouses in Koyasan and certainly the best. Our room was very well equipped as described and quite big. Everything was extremely clean, there were clean towels, new water and tea on the second day. The guesthouse is just a few steps away from the bus stop in the center of Koyasan. Tommy is such a warm and courteous host. The contact before our stay was always quick and super nice. A clear recommendation!

A wonderful Guesthouse in a quieter part of Koyasan but within easy walking distance to all the major attractions. Extremely clean and tidy with large shared living spaces. Conveniently located close to the only Family Mart in town, a bus stop and a little park. Nori, the host, is most helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. I highly recommend Hachi Hachi.

We love our stay at Guest House Suzumeno Kakurembo! Our hosts were so friendly, funny and welcoming! Our room was spotless clean(!), spacious and super cosy! Heating is available (it can get really cold in Koyasan at night) and we also had a water dispenser (hot/cold) in our room which was soo convenient! They also have a restaurant with amazing food! We recommend this guesthouse! Thank you so much for your hospitality!
