I would have to agree with most of the reviews I’ve read before booking this property. It is by far the best place I’ve stayed in in Japan after all those years travelling in the country and without breaking my budget. The property features Japanese-style family rooms which are spacious and the limited number of rooms make you feel like you’re in an exclusive company. It is located in a picturesque village and the view in winter is just amazing. The private onsen is a treat for families to experience the hot springs together. And the outdoor onsen is quite an experience. Imagine soaking in the hot pool with the snow falling on your head. Despite the hour-long bus ride to the city of Takayama and the limited schedule of buses to the place, I would still recommend booking this place specially after the rush from visting Japan’s busy cities such as Tokyo. The property is walking distance from the bus terminal (less than 5 minutes in snowy weather) so no need to worry if there are no taxis around. There are also attractions along the way which we weren’t able to visit such as the Shinnotaka ropeway and the Hida caves. The village is famous enough for its hot springs, so just staying there is already a treat.

Fantastic place in the middle of the mountains, secluded and quaint. The Ryokan is quiet and we were almost alone. The onsen they have was absolutely amazing and the food they served outstanding

Mitsue Kinoshita is an elderly lady and manages everything! She uses a tablet to translate everything in your native language. Everything was uncomplicated and gave off the feeling of staying at your japanese grandma in her traditional japanese house with her beautifukly maintaines garden amd ourdoor earea.
The dinner (in yukata) was an amazing variation with hida beef as the main star. You grill it yourself on a little charcoal grill.
Finally, the onsen. Absolutely amazing! Indoor and outdoor, open 24h (because it is a hot spring^^). She even has a onsen foot bath on the terrace. Of note, the toilets are shared and the bathroom are the indoor and ourdoor onsen.
