Tranquil environment but still within good reach of the public transport. Easy to wander the east side of the city. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. The guesthouse itself was very cosy and authentic.

The hotel is exceptional and frankly exceeded our expectations. Its minimalist architecture centered on an inner garden is a real highlight. We had a fantastic stay. Everything was perfect, including the public baths and the breakfast. We stayed in a superior room. The location was good, only a few streets away from central metro and bus stations. The room overlooked a quiet street

Only a 5-minute walk from Shiyakusho-Mae Subway Station, Nishiyama Ryokan - Established in 1953 features Japanese-style rooms, a garden and rental bicycles. This non-smoking hotel provides in-room massages service can be arranged. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the premises. Great ryokan! It's my first time staying at ryokan and my dad was amazed on how clean and well maintained the ryokan is! It's more than 50 years old but everything looks clean and spotless. Tea ceremony is very educative as a matcha lover and the traditional clothes are also a plus. Recommend staying here (pricy though). We got new year japanese special breakfast and the food was a loootttt! We are very full until afternoon... we also got to taste some good traditional Japanese food we never taste before. Location is close to tourist attractions using bus (some temples nearby and lots of restaurants nearby if using bus). Great experience in kyoto!
