I was only there for 2 nights, specifically for the NZ...
I was only there for 2 nights, specifically for the NZ History Federation AGM and Conference. So it was very busy with organised activities at Te Hana Cultural Centre and bus trip around Port Albert, including the Museum across the road from motel and RSA Wellsford. Close to all areas matakana, Warkworth, waipu and snells beach Mangawhai and only 33 min to millwater area. If you don't want to be in Auckland this is a great little motel. Has a sauna and a spa. Great having the new motorwayGuest review byMichelleNew Zealand - 10.0

Wellsford is a town you have to drive through as you travel...
Wellsford is a town you have to drive through as you travel north to the Bay of Islands and beyond. It can be a bottle neck so if you are not heading there for an overnight stay, best to make certain that you do not hit it at peak travel times or season. It has everything for a quick stop. Petrol station. Many fast food outlets and amenities for travellers. If you want to take a quieter more scenic route to Auckland, then take the road to Hellensville which joins SH1 at Wellsfords Northern end. It was spacious, the bed was fantastically comfortable and the little extras were amazing. A beautiful continental breakfast each day, beautiful drinking water, excptional hot water for showers and amazing stars at night. Highly recommended!! Pull cord main light switch was unusual (and sometimes difficult to find) but otherwise great accommodation. Lovely garden to wander around in.
