If you want to have a quite holiday exploring Tauranga go there in the off season say June to september .otherwise the summer is great but very busy . It was a lovely fresh clean motel we were there for only one nite to attend a birthday celebration. When we got back to the motel it appeared the bed had been used as a couch and the $400 dollar bottle of parfum that was on the bed was gone. We were there in autumn.
We were there in autumn. It's a summer city ... sun, sea and surf. Not many cultural activities and the art gallery happened to be closed! Historic village, although mainly retail, was a pleasant couple of hours stroll through. Tauranga a good place for families I think.
