Great concept and a nice execution too. We arrived at an empty place late at night (self checkin works out well) and my wife was frightened to death lol. But the facilities are good and clean considering the surroundings.

We were checked-in by very friendly staff and other guests seemed to be very down to earth, friendly and interesting people. The small common space was a lovely combination of typical hostel items (world map with pins, books), a small but effective kitchen niece and typical japanese tatami room cozyness. I was especially amazed that there was a small working space upstairs. If I had know that, I might have stayed a day or two longer just to take out my laptop and get some of the work done that I had taken with me on my trip. Everything seemed quite new and very clean. We did not have enought time to try out the cafe or the home grown vegetables shop run by the same people. But both looked very inviting. There were three bicycles that could be taken to ride around town on a first come first served base. With ear plugs, there was no disturbing noise at night in the 4 bed dorm room. Doable walk from Yakumo station.

Bear Foot東町 is a delightful place to stay if you're exploring southern Hokkaido. The location is ideal for discovering local culture and nature. Just a short walk away is the Yakumocho Carved Wooden Bears Museum, a unique spot celebrating the town’s famous bear woodcarving tradition. You can also visit Umemura Garden, a peaceful green space nearby. For scenic views, Funkawan Bay Panorama Park is about 12 km away and offers stunning coastal landscapes. The area around Bear Foot東町 is well-served with local eateries and shops. The nearby Yakumo shopping street also has cozy restaurants and cafes where we enjoy local dishes.

I loved staying with Tomoki, she is a wonderful host and super kind. I missed the local train to Kunnui, and she came to rescue me at oshamambe. It’s a very warm experience of sharing someone’s home- very personal, not a hotel experience.

Ski resort on the doorstep. Very clean and friendly helpful staff. Good onsen free use for guests.
