Santa Cristina Sacred Well is AMAZING!!!
Santa Cristina Sacred Well is AMAZING!!! It is about half way between Bosa and Barumini, where Su Nuraxe is (the only Unesco World Heritage Site on Sardinia). As the Nuraghes were being abandoned (WHY???) the culture turned to worship of water. This well (spring) is from about 1000 BC and incredible construction and design, and in almost perfect condition. Definitely worth World Heritage status in our humble opinion. And even if you've seen lots of Nuraghes already, Su Nuraxe is worthwhile, because iit was so complex, so complete, and you go with an English speaking guide. Imagine how easy it would be to defend in it's later construction! Contemplate why the north tower is so cold! So why did they abandon it? Town is little but cute. Museums OK. Dinner very good (Sa Lolly). We also went about 20-30 minutes up a huge hiill to Parco della Giarda, where the only wild horses in Europe are. No ticket needed, gorgeous hike. Saw wild horses including Mom and baby in shallow lake eating grass, several other horses who disappeared like ghosts, but also dueling dung beetles, goats wearing bells, incredible wildflowers and bark stripped but healthy Cork Oak trees.
