Imphal is a laid back big town/small city . Coming from other parts of the country one would feel that facilities are not up to even tier three cities but there are good wide roads. Army and police personnel armed with automatic weapons are frequently sighted. Local cuisine is quite different and recommended only for the very adventurous. Public transport is nonexistent as in all of Northeast. Autos and taxis available, although shared autos ply to different routes providing a cheaper alternative. The nonlocals I saw were mainly shopkeepers and workers, almost no tourists. Imphal is calm but the tension beneath the surface is palpable.

    Shops closes very early.

Shops closes very early. Not safe to travel alone to all distant locations. Many parts of the state are not safe for travelers as well as locals. Should maintain caution at all times while travelling outside Imphal

The kangla fort is one place you should not miss visiting.

The kangla fort is one place you should not miss visiting. also, you must take a guided tour otherwise you will not know much about its history and significance. the tour guides are very good. the electric golf carts are aalso very well maintained. Also, go to Loktak lake and moirang INA museum. They are just one hour away.

There isn't much to see in Imphal.

There isn't much to see in Imphal. There's Loktak lake and on the way, an INA Memorial, and waterfall. There's also a peace memorial to the 1944 war with the Japanese. Kangla Fort and Museum were closed because of the second wave of COVID. Transport was also consequently expensive. I wouldn't advise more than a two day stay even if everything was open.
