What a treasure! We definitely recommend this hotel and would love to stay there again if we return to Jerusalem. The thing that impressed us the most was the friendly, professional and careful service. We were welcomed with warm hospitality. Someone went with my husband to park our car in a nearby lot. The rooms were fabulous-- stone walls and antique furniture. Beds and pillows were comfortable. Bathroom had nice shampoo, lotion etc and a powerful, hot shower. We enjoyed a delicious traditional dinner in the restaurant and generous breakfast the following morning. The location is perfect if you want to visit the Garden Tomb and the old city of Jerusalem (Damascus gate). We were a group of 6 people (3 rooms) and everyone was fully satisfied!

FAQs about hotels in Jerusalem

The Meeting Point of Religions

One of the world’s oldest cities, Jerusalem is revered in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Its focal point is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old City where 4 diverse quarters sit side by side, surrounded by 16th-century walls.

The most prominent Muslim Quarter landmark is the Dome of the Rock, a 7th-century shrine on Temple Mount whose gold dome is visible for miles. Nearby is Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s 3rd holiest site.

In the Jewish Quarter is the Western Wall (or Wailing Wail), remains of ramparts surrounding the ancient Second Jewish Temple, where Jews offer prayers. By the walls in the Armenian Quarter is the Tower of David, a 2nd-century BC citadel overlooking some Jerusalem hotels near Jaffa Gate, one of 8 city gates.

The Christian Quarter houses the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, reportedly on the site of Jesus’ crucifixion, while the Mount of Olives – another Christian site and home to some Jerusalem hotels near the old city – is just east of the walls.

Other must-see Jerusalem sights include Israel Museum with the Dead Sea Scrolls, and Yad Vashem, a memorial to Holocaust victims. The Rockefeller Museum was the 1st Middle Eastern archaeology museum, and Jerusalem Biblical Zoo houses wildlife from the Hebrew Bible.

The closest airport to Jerusalem is Ben Gurion Airport, on the Tel Aviv road.

Jerusalem is a fabulous mix of Palestinians, Christians and Jews. The historic and religious sites are a must. We left feeling spiritually closer to Jesus and our religion, but also the other religions especially the Palestinians who mainly staffed the hotel and showed us around the great city. It was a once in a lifetime experience, one we will never forget, thank you Jerusalem.

Despite some of the news coverage, Jerusalem is safe and a wonderful place to visit! Staying in the Jewish Quarter is the best advice, unless you have a 'street-wise' tour guide. The Light Rail (modern tram) that runs through the Old City is the best way to get around. Train from Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv is inexpensive, recommended to obtain a 'RavKav' card which you'll need a minimum 100 shekels initially (£25 GBP) as the train to Jerusalem is 18 shekels currently. The North in the Galilee and the South in Eilat is easily accessible by bus/coach from the bus station in Jerusalem.

The best way to experience Jerusalem is with a licensed tour guide. There is so much in this city to discover and uncover. I have been many times, and always learn and discover something new. I do not recommend a car in the city. Walking is best. There are many local buses and you can also take a cab. The food is incredible, as are the diversity of people and cultures.

Jerusalem is a wonderful city to visit any time of year.

Jerusalem is a wonderful city to visit any time of year. We are American and were a bit hesitant to visit during the current state of affairs. We are glad we kept our plans. Due to low tourism we were able to see the old city and many other historical sites with out the burden of crowds. We experienced one alarm while we were there and neighbors kindly walked us to a local bomb shelter. The Jewish people are resilient, no matter the situation you see tons of families with children out and about and the parks are full of activity. They are living life as usual and you would never know there is conflict going on. The city feels very safe, we ate late at restaurants and walked late in the night thru the neighborhoods back to our apartment and always felt safe. Getting around is easy, we walked mostly but when needed taxi service (Gett app is preferred) was our preference, but they have a good bus system. Rail that runs near the old city is currently out of service but due back up soon.

Get a RavKav card. DO NOT travel on Saturdays.

Get a RavKav card. DO NOT travel on Saturdays. Even if Google says there is transportation- there isn't. Taxi's cost 5x the amount of bus fare. Food is expensive (about 1.5 times that in the states at least). You will walk 5 miles a day. You will climb a lot of stairs- about 350 steps/day. There are very few elevators. The city has some free WIFI, but it's spotty. Shop the Cardo in the old city- it's cheaper than "new" Jerusalem even just outside the gate unless you want fresh produce. The tap water is drinkable without any issues and has good taste. Vendors EXPECT haggling. It's the culture. If they hit you at 600 Shekels, respond with 100. You will end up around 250-300 if you stick to your guns. They deliberately overcharge for the haggle. Local businesses are typically closed on Friday at sunset until Saturday until sunset- at least in the Jewish Quarter. Everyone will try to be your tour guide. I've never had a problem, but I have managed to do well without one. If you're going to buy antiquities, do it near the Via Dolorosa. I personally recommend Baidun's. "No" is not part of business language there. Say "maybe tomorrow" or "if God's willing". They will say anything to get you in their shops. And, don't try to not look American- you will anyway. It's not dangerous at all there- it was very peaceful and people were generally kind. Just know the merchants are VERY persistent. Christian Quarter/Armenian are a bit cleaner than the others. Islamic Quarter is less clean than others. I didn't notice flies or mosquitos in July. There's free public water fountains almost everywhere. No need to keep buying water- take your own bottle to save a lot of money.

I have always stayed at the City Center Hotel in all my visit to Jerusalem. I have noticed a vast improvement in the facilities in the room and I can only give praise to all the staff for their readiness to help out if needed. I have to give a special mention to Dawoud the receptionist, a very active and helpful young man.

The pluses: The rooms are very beautiful and all the little details have been thought through. The coffee/tea maker is awesome and so is the bathroom. Hotel is decorated very nicely, especially for Israeli standards. You could confuse it with a 5 star American hotel until you get to the service part.
