Small town with awesome history, from Sean's pub to Maisies (live music) to the Viking riverboat (we had some "real" Vikings come on board which took the whole ride to a new level! This is my third trip to Athlone, the reason being to visit...
This is my third trip to Athlone, the reason being to visit a friend from my U.S. days, who was staying with family. There is much to appreciate about Athlone, it has a lot of character. There are plenty of shops and two shopping malls. There is a good train service to/from Dublin and onto Galway, stopping in between. There is a bus station adjacent to the train station. You could travel on public transport thus avoiding hire car and driving. The river Shannon flows through the centre of Athlone, it is popular for fishing and sailing and walking. There is a tourist centre, and it is a lively place to stay. There are some good quality hotels. As someone who travels a lot, this was one of the more memorable stays I’ve had. The Princess 380 yacht is beautifully updated—sleek, clean, and really well thought out inside. It had all the comforts you'd expect, but with the added bonus of waking up on the water. The location in Athlone is spot on too—easy to walk anywhere, yet it still feels like a peaceful little hideaway. when i arrived at the radisson i thought breakfast was...
when i arrived at the radisson i thought breakfast was included but it wasn't ..and the 7 euro charge for delivery was a con..overall i felt the radisson was trying to con more money out of me..sunday night we stayed in cliftden at the station view..the room was much bigger, breakfast was better and breakfast was included in the room which cost 103 euro for the night which was a deal for that night..i felt they were trying to do more for us than the radisson .Guest review bywilliamIreland

I was unable to book this and when I happened to look for another place in Athlone I came across on booking. com five rooms available at a lower rate. The only thing that had me confused was, booking.com have the hotel in Athlone but it's actually in Roscommon, apparently the county line goes down the centre of Lough Ree .As it was Easter weekend the hotel was packed and buzzing and we didn't have to wait too long for food.
