Rhodes has the most extensive historic walls and historic buildings in phenomenal shape that I have ever seen in Europe. It is simply stunning. That said, in season, Cruise ships disgorge thousands upon thousands of passengers each day and even in October- when we went - it was packed. I think it would be hell in July and August. The historic little streets were full of shops, cafes and restaurants, but you could still get a sense of what the town was like centuries ago. Definitely worth a visit, as was Lindos for which we hired a car for only £40 for the day. Rhodes town is a fascinating place.
Rhodes town is a fascinating place. It is easy and safe to walk round at night and there is a good choice of restaurants. It does get crowded during the day however.
