I've never visited Retford before, however I'm very glad I did, especially after staying at the Elms. A warm welcome greeted me at reception, I was then shown to my lovely room which was located in buildings adjacent to the hotel. This was well laid out, clean and with a very comfy bed, as well as being far enough away so as not to be disturbed by the footfall from the hotel restaurant, which I can also highly recommend after having dinner there with guests. Breakfast was plentiful and great value for money too. Overall a great stay made even more so by genuinely friendly staff.

Breakfast was super good! Location was close to the highway but still far enough. The village itself was cute and very small. Hosts were very friendly and helpful.

Lovely the moment you walk in and meet the lovely Jacqueline. She couldn't do enough, firstly showed me how to operate the tv sky and coffee station in my room. Asked if I was happy with everything and if I was dining in. (which I did see the photos, wow) The double bed was stunningly comfortable and had the best nights sleep in ages. For dinner there was a huge selection of different cuisines and also offered if any foods not on menu she could cook. (which I had chicken curry and vegetables with dessert and mango juice) offered music or tv to relax to (and the jazz I chose was very relaxing made me forget about work for an hour or so) great hostess, lovely manner and a fantastic smile and personality, will be visiting on business again. Parking was on drive and also on the street whichever you wanted to choose. I enjoyed my stay immensely (as you can tell)

Very homely, the room had lots of extras like blanket and heater but also a ceiling fan. The double bed was cosy. I appreciated the kitchenette which had plenty of supplies, there was a range of drinks, even filter coffee & fresh milk in a little fridge, which I was also able to use for my own food. The bathroom was very clean and in fact everything was super clean and the bathroom had recently had a stand up shower fitted and various complimentary items. It was nice that I didn’t have to share the bathroom . I am definitely booking again for a longer trip.

There was much more to Tuxford than meets the eye.

There was much more to Tuxford than meets the eye. A perfect stopping off point just by the A1, Tuxford boasts 2 museums, 2 excellent cafes (not open in the evening) a parish lock-up and a very good fish and chip shop. Lincoln and Newark are an easy drive away and the Fountain serves well-cooked food from Thursday to Sunday. Opening times can be a bit variable, the town caters for a local clientele and is definitely not a 24 hour society!

The accommodation was excellent couldn't fault it apart from I forgot to pack my slippers or some flip flops for walking across the decking. It had 2 decent sized gardens for the dog to wander in not fully fenced off but he never wanders too far anyway so no problem for us. It was very private and nice distance away from the other cabin so everyone had their privacy. The owners were lovely and helpful. We did walk into a small part of tuxford which had a pub and a few takeaways which is you want to bring back to the cabin go in car as it is about a 15-20 minute walk. There is also a pub next to the site which also offers takeaway and dine in but it only does food certain days of the week. There was a few buses but if you want to rely on them I'd research them first as I don't know how often the actually ran by the site. There is quite a few places to see if your planning a long trip but you would need a car. All in all its a lovely place just for a quick relaxing getaway. Would definitely recommend for a couple or single person just looking for a nice place to go, wether you want to just full on chill out or if you do want a little adventure.
