The town centre is nice enough, has some interesting buildings. There are 2 stunning old steel bridges and some other references to the era of cool and steel. It's a town in change to newer industries. For city tourists probably not that great, but quite some interesting references to the past. And the surroundings offer different possibilities from hiking (rosberry topping), over history (different Captain Cook references) to seaside pleasures (Redcar, Saltburn, Whitby)

The centre offers a wide selection of restaurants; most look great. However I can't recommend visiting Middlesbrough; it's severely deprived with drug users lying on the street, metal panels on all business properties (there was one that didn't have that and all the windows were smashed). I didn't feel safe with muggers cycling around looking for their next victim. I will not return here.

Middlesbrough is very much a decaying post industrial town. Initially I thought it would make a good setting for a dystopian film about post apocalyptic Britain, with its many closed and boarded up shops - big and small. But I grew to like the place. It has excellent public transport links to the beautiful surrounding countryside, and the stunning north Yorkshire coast. It's an honest town, very multicultural, and everyone I met was friendly and helpful.

The accommodation was opposite a big park, and the staff had parking permits I have mobility issues and the staff found me a ground floor room. Their suggestions for evening meals were very good. We ended up at an italianm restaurant eating outside and loving it. Not my reaction before we'd visted middlesborough. Nice countryside around, and going towards the coast is excellent. I was surprised how good it was

Very clean and easy to access. Close to town centre. Street parking mostly available. The beds were very comfortable. Large windows so the house was very airy, so we eventually didn’t need a fan.
