Bowness is a fabulous base to sightseeing from.
Bowness is a fabulous base to sightseeing from. It's a lovely little area of the Lake District. Very busy at times and too much traffic and not enough parking spaces. This is the third time I have been back to Bowness this year...
This is the third time I have been back to Bowness this year. I love the art shops, the clothes shops and most importantly the home made fudge. So relaxing watching the boats on the lake and geting the ferry to the other side to walk up to Hill Top. Bowness is good place to take a short break. The ferry trip to Lakeside and the short train ride was most enjoyable and very good value. The first two days were warm and sunny, but inevitably it poured down on the last day. Bowness was busy and eating out is expensive. Our Hotel was Burn How within 5 minutes walking distance of...
Our Hotel was Burn How within 5 minutes walking distance of the cruise ships. We took 2 trips on separate days, one to Ambleside to the north of Lake Windermere and the other longer trip south to Lakeside. There one could visit an aquarium and take a 15 minute steam train ride returning to Bowness on a later cruise ship. The only disappointment was that most eating places close at 5pm so the choice is therefore limited unless of course you have oodles of cash.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom

Close to all the pubs, restaurants, shops and the lakeside, though up a short steep hill!! The bedroom (room 4) was very spacious and clean with a superb bath and shower. Nick the host also provides a few welcome added touches such as homemade cakes, bottles of water and fresh milk.
