Enchanting project run by friendly hosts. Its a 300 year old factory turned into a guesthouse and cultural hub. We visited in low season but the common areas and room in themselves were interesting enough to make us wish we had more time to just enjoy the surroundings.

If I could, I’d rate it 100/10 :) lovely old house in the small village with a welcoming and friendly host family. Good breakfasts with homemade yoghurt, jams, pastries. Good and various dinners are made with local products. Everything was so carefully thought out in the room, from blackout curtains and windows with mosquito nets to great quality towels and bed linen. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return!

My husband and I loved our stay at the Abbaye de Villelongue's chambres d'hotes. Although this historical Cisterncian abbey had been in ruins, it continues to be lovingly restored and maintained by the owners who live on-site. We marveled at the abbey's magnificent architecture, unique sculptures, serenity of the garden where fruit trees and some flowers were beginning to blossom and the colorful wisteria was in bloom. The rooms are located in the former monks' dormitory. Our room with its great garden view was uniquely decorated with antique furniture, pottery, gourds and was magical and romantic. The rooms are located in the former monks' dormitory. We were so comfortable there and slept very well. We enjoyed and appreciated the breakfast especially the homemade confiture (jam) and the delicious locally produced "brebis" (sheep) yogurt. We felt so special during our stay at the abbey with access to the grounds and garden whenever we wanted, its tranquility and location in the beautiful countryside. We enjoyed talking with the owners and were fortunate to meet their son and grandchild who were there for a visit. C'etait un sejour merveilleux!

I would definitely recommend this place to anybody! I have never stayed in a place so clean and well taken care of. Also very nice to know that part of the house is part of the old rampart of the town and from the 500! It is in a beautiful state! It is clear the friendly owner Christina, is a real hostess who would like to give her guest the best possible experience. And everything you need is available. The breakfast was exceptionally delicious with homemade bread, croissants and jams and other nice stuff presented with lots of attention to detail. For dinner we were too late to have dinner at her place, but she had very good recommendations and helped us with making a reservation. On the way back we noticed how beautiful it is located against the mountain, in this cute mountain village. We had the family room which was very spacious with very comfortable king size bed. Very nice the room with the two single beds, could be closed with a door when the kids were to bed. We were also here during a heat wave but the room was nicely cooled down with an aircon and extra fans available in the room. She also had lots of recommendations on what to do in the surroundings, we would love to come back one day and probably stay for a bit longer!

    Wonderful little village, but doesn't really come alive...

    Wonderful little village, but doesn't really come alive until at least 10 am. Recommend preparing for your own breakfasts, and possibly lunches, depending on the days. Nearby Saissac has a delicious epicerie for lunch as well.

    So difficult to find attractive villages that are not over...

    So difficult to find attractive villages that are not over promoted with touristic attractions and hence full of tourists. Montolieu is attractive is small, full of lovely book stores (mostly old and collectors), a few restaurants (we experience two very nice meals), and so pretty and wonderful to walk around.

    Great place to visit for a couple of nights.

    Great place to visit for a couple of nights. Good varied restaurants, lots to see. Artistic village. Friendly. Everything does close on various days & lunch time. No cash points. Great swimming rock pools. Need a car for visiting surrounding areas.

    Very chic in an old fashion way. This small city has a unique vibe. The rooms were nice, ful of old details. Very comfortable beds. This stay feels like going back in time. In a hotel and in a city as well. We stayed one night travelling through France and enjoyed it, since this was the experience we were looking for. The hosts are really nice and easy going.

    The location was perfect, at the heart of Montolieu. Easy walking distance to the shops, and reasonably close to parking, depending on the time of day. The layout is great, with a fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities, as well as a walk in shower and separate toilet upstairs
