Stockmans Hall of Fame next door was great, will have to come back to see it properly. We spent half a day there. Difficult if not impossible to buy a cooked meal anywhere after 830 pm. This is not a huge issue, it's just a matter of awareness & adjusting your personal plans to accommodate it. Birdcage was very good for a meal. A quintessential outback town that has made the most of opportunities for tourism. We booked three activities and each was excellent. The town had a variety of accommodation options and also has good shopping: spend some outback $$$ to benefit the town. We drive out and had a car but most accommodation locations allow moderately fit people to walk to pubs and restaurants. I like to support RSLs and Longreach’s was great for dinner. We had a 3 night stay which for us was just right.
We had a 3 night stay which for us was just right. Arrived on afternoon first day. Did Qantas Founders and the Wingwalk AM next morning - Outstanding! Mid afternoon we were picked up right at our accommodation at the Staging Post/Outback Pioneers for our 3 part tour - great value and very informative. Thompson River Cruise - afternoon tea and river cruise. Saw Emu dad and 6 young, lots of birdlife, turtles. Sunset Viewing - Movie and story re the relocation of Pride of the Murry from Echuca Vic to Longreach and its refit etc then its sinking. Camp dinner with story telling and finally Movie about Henry Readford / Captain Starlight - stockman/rustler. Next morning we did the Darr River rail motor trip and morning tea with Outback Aussie Tours.
