A quintessential Australian country town.
A quintessential Australian country town. A lot of money from the 19th century gold rush but a loss of people to the major capitals has had an obvious impact on the people and the businesses. A Saturday night in winter was death by boredom but I'm sure the racing weekends bring a lot of money into the town. Be warned, this is a meat town! Steaks were large and tasty. After driving the Mt Panorama circuit a few times (once was not enough) at a calm 60kmh, it has given me a new appreciation for the drivers and cars that fly around the circuit on race days. It is a definite Must Do if you are visiting/staying in Bathurst. A visit to the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, Bathurst Rail Museum (for the magnificent mini railway display) and Chifley Home are worth a visit. Pick up a copy of the Bathurst Region brochure, which is chock full of events, attractions and tours, food, art, culture and accommodation for Bathurst and environs.Guest review byMAB1311Australia - 10.0

We needed to stay at least a week as there is a lot to experience. We enjoyed a stroll around the city and some of the surrounding streets. This was a great way to see some of the beautiful architecture in Bathurst. Food options are great - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lovely town with super friendly people.
Lovely town with super friendly people. Good places to eat and to shop plus the famous Bathurst racetrack. The motor museum was an amazing look back at the history of the track. Wished the distillery had been open during our time there as I would have liked to try some of their whisky. Will def visit again.Guest review byDavidAustralia

Spacious historic inner proportions and details. Nice log fire. I so do love the small of hardwood burning in the grate on a winters night.Next to that the staff were helpful and courteous.
