New ZealandJames is a superb host. His communication prior to arrival, his friendly, welcoming greeting upon arrival and his attentive thoughtfulness during our stay were all outstanding.
The boutique nature of Sunrise Lodge (only ten rooms in total) provided a more personal experience for us and this, we believe, is the best place to stay in all of Malta - not just on Gozo - but the entire country. Sure, there are places that cost USD$1000+ per night that would also be great, but Sunrise Lodge represents unsurpassed value for money. It is only a ten minute walk, all downhill, to the ferry terminal that connects Gozo to the island of Malta. Ferry trips are also fairly short and inexpensive.
We would choose to stay on Gozo for the duration of our stay next time, using this delightful island as our base.
We must also give a big shout out to Joe, Sunrise Lodge's Welsh chef. Joe is a character, and he and James are a great team. They make a great breakfast!
For first-time visitors to Malta, seriously consider Sunrise Lodge as your place to stay. You will, like us, be delighted with your decision.
