Absolutely beautiful property surrounded by nature. We loved the experience of being in the treehouse and a sleeping amongst the trees. The family were incredible hosts and so attentive! They looked after us from beginning to end. Such an authentic Sri Lankan experience.

Best value for money so far in Sri Lanka. Great location by the river. We saw some tree snakes, peacocks and chipmunks. Nice balcony to chill on with breakfast. Air con was perfect and adjustable. Nice towels.

My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. The highlight of our stay was undeniably our incredible host, who spared no effort in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Everything! The garden, the bungalow with it’s private space outside to chill, the common areas where people got together to drink, eat or just chat… It’s also a 1 minute walk from the beach and literally 30 seconds from awesome coffe shops and restaurants. The hosting family is kind and will help you with anything you need. I had the chance to know more about them and how midigama has evolved in the past 40 years. It was really interesting and they are the sweetest people. Also, 2 great surfing spots just a few minutes walk from the bungalows. I will surely come back! Thanks for everything!

Room was small but perfect for us. Toilet was clean, owner was nice. He helped for our moped rental for our whole stay and also made sure we were comfortable all the time. It was nice to be checked on. House was also quite literally a <1 minute walk to the beach. It was also a very quiet beach with a restaurant right in front. Would stay here again when I come back.

Location: The property is situated in a quiet part of Mirissa, offering stunning ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Cleanliness & Accommodation: The accommodation was spotless and well-maintained. Our spacious room had excellent air conditioning, a large balcony with breathtaking views, and high water pressure in the shower—every detail was well taken care of for maximum comfort. Staff & Service: The service was outstanding, and Leel, in particular, made our stay even more memorable. He took our food preferences into account, and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks to him, we had the incredible opportunity to witness turtles coming ashore to lay eggs and later saw baby turtles being released from a nearby hatchery. His kindness and attention to detail truly stood out. Food: Every dish we tried was absolutely delicious, with generous portions. The chef engaging, frequently checking in to ensure we were happy with our meals. We even received complimentary desserts, making our dining experience even more special. Overall, everything exceeded our expectations. A special thanks to Leel and the entire team for making our experience so special. Highly recommended!

The perfect place to spend your vacation! If you want peace and quiet, this is the place to go. You are given an entire bungalow with a separate kitchen and lounge area. You will be the only guest at Channe's and all the host's attention will be on you. Lovely non repetitive breakfasts that will be cooked for you by your host, we were delighted! Channe, very hospitable, will always offer tea or any other help. You can also hire a bike from him for a good price and get a shuttle to the airport. The bungalow was very clean and bug free. Great bed with a good mattress. Will greatly miss our conversations at breakfast) Will definitely come back here again!!!!

Honestly was probably our best stay in Sri Lanka. In the past we ran out into an issue that reviews/photos on booking don't reflect the reality but not in this case. The property looks better in reality. Super clean and we had everything we needed and staff was so helpful. It is a 10 minutes drive from the beach but you can rent a scooter from the property. And it is super quiet, we had such a relaxing time having breakfast with squirrels and birds. The villa was build by the owner family and you can tell that they are proud of their work and they maintain it very well. Overall, amazing, book there you won't regret it.
