We had a really nice stay at Aro Kato during our Egypt trip. When we arrived in Aswan from Luxor, our driver took us to the wrong dock due to language barriers. The hotel staff quickly helped us, communicating with our driver and sending a boat to bring us to their island. The white buildings of the hotel blend nicely with the rocks and offer good views of the Nile. It's a quiet, clean place with pleasant landscaping and greenery. The lunch was good value and tasty. We tried kayaking in the afternoon with staff members who stayed with us for safety. When I asked about the place of some submerged ancient Egyptian structures, a staff member kindly lead us there, and we got to see a beautiful sunset over the Nile and Philae Temple. I can see they are very familiar with the surroundings. We enjoyed dinner at their outdoor restaurant where we could hear some people singing in far distance. We love this vibe. The reception was always ready to help - when my friend left a power bank in the room after check-out, they found it and quickly help her get it back I didn't take pictures of our room, but everything was quite new. The beds were comfortable, the rooms spacious with high ceilings, and each had a small terrace with a view of the Nile. We think Aro Kato was the best place we stayed in Egypt. It's conveniently located near Philae Temple, offers kayaking, and has friendly staff. It's a good choice for anyone visiting Aswan.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Simple and Basic Nubian style guest house. Clean and comfortable. Kato in Nubian language means guest house - Karim, the co -owner has built this place up himself, converted from a family home of his Nubian partner. Karim was very accommodating, helped liaise with Egyptian airport authorities over my lost luggage! - quite a headache for him ahh! He catered to my every need, helped me find the items I was looking for in Aswan market, and guided me to the best fried fish I tasted in Egypt! The location is beautiful. Heissa Island is a very special place - the tranquility and beauty of the Nile, and other worldly atmosphere, coupled with the stunning views from the guesthouse provide much needed time out of the hustle and bustle, rest and relaxation. In the centre of Asilah Kato is also a stone courtyard, with beautiful embroidered upholstery to sit upon, and with fire pit in the centre, where - undisturbed by light pollution - the star scape is incredible at night. Asilah Kato is short boat ride away from both the original site of Isis's temple and the relocated temple at Philae. Karim can organise travel by boat for you to any local locations.

Noprea and the surrounding area was absolutely beautiful and far exceeded our expectations! Everything about the place was magic and our only regret was that we couldn’t stay longer. Tucked away on a peaceful island in the reservoir, you couldn’t find a better place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and Nubian lifestyle. On top of that the rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable and have everything you could possibly need, the breakfast was absolutely delicious and the whole place exceedingly good value for money - we could have stayed forever. All of the staff were wonderful, especially Tamer, who was extremely informative and helpful throughout our stay - nothing was too much trouble! Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay and we can’t wait to come back! If you are coming to Aswan make sure to stay here, you will not regret it!

This place is like a dream. The perfect place to stay in Aswan. Incredible location, beautifully set. The staff are so warm and welcoming, the unique Nubian style. Amazing food and entertainment. I rented the whole hotel for my group and we absolutely loved it. I will be using the Old Nubian for all future trips tours to Aswan without hesitation!

The staff at the hotel was exceptionally kind, especially Hamada. We'd like to express our gratitude to him for the warm welcome drink (fresh mango juice!), the thoughtful breakfast box he prepared when we had to leave at 4 in the morning, and the fantastic boat ride on the Nile that he organized for us. Additionally, the hotel boasts a lovely terrace with a stunning view, providing guests with a truly enjoyable experience.

one of the best experiences I have had. this is not just a nice guesthouse with a great view, new and very clean rooms in one of the most atmospheric areas of Aswan. this is a real immersion into the life of a beautiful Nubian family who take care of you. this is definitely more than just a business. this is the heart that is shared with you through every detail. JJ also has a boat that you can travel to the main tourist locations with a very friendly price that you won't find on the street. his wife is an amazing Nubian woman who cooked wonderful breakfasts and even painted my hands with henna as a souvenir. thank you, see you again!
