We were looked after as if we were visiting family. The experience of Abou Simbel is one that we would have missed if we had not been staying at Wawat. We happened to be there at one of the 2 busiest days of the year. Assim, our host, personally arranged for us to attend all the festivities. He found us tickets to the night show and tickets to be at the temple for sunrise the next day, charging us only the ticket price in spite of all his work to get them. He then was up at 4am with us to ensure we were in the right place in the huge festival queue to see the remarkable sunrise event as designed 3000 years ago. We literally would not have been able to do this without Assim and Hamsah. And all with such warm, genuine smiles. Thank you.

The whole place has a more relaxed, warm vibe than anywhere else we visited in Egypt, which made our time here especially memorable. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and tastefully decorated, and the food in the restaurant is absolutely delicious. We can’t recommend this place highly enough—if you’re visiting Abu Simbel, spend a night or two here. It’s the perfect way to experience the town beyond just the temples.
